Otik's debut on Aus Music, the Xoul Trap EP back in May 2023, showcased his unique blend of atmospheric and breakbeat-powered techno. It is one of many releases over the last decade that have helped establish Ashley Thomas as an artist with a left-of-centre perspective. As well as curating his own Solar Body label he has dropped his singer sounds on Mall Grab's Steel City Dance Discs and Martyn's 3024, where he served up his debut album Cosmosis late in 2024. 

The lush 'Retrograde' is doused in loved-up synth layers and beautiful arps that swirl around a dusty, driving beat. The celestial charm is heightened with angelic vocal motifs that drift through the mix as the lo-fi drums drive on and lock you into a hazy trance.  
'X-Dream' is another melodic masterclass, this time with a garage-tinged and shuffling groove. Gorgeously tender keys rain down from above next to more echoing vocal coos and heavenly synth smears. The whole thing has a hint of melancholy that makes for an even more lasting impact.

@jackwrd is a producer from Limerick, Ireland, based in Manchester, UK. His new release ‘Smooth Cream Pop’ offers three delightfully sweet upbeat dance tracks informed by his love of pristine pop and filtered house. If 2022’s ‘A Gift from Me to You’ showed Ward’s sense of frivolity, with track titles like ‘Baby Gay Track’ and ‘Sotofett Gig Harry Potter’, Smooth Cream Pop is more direct in its desire to get you dancing.

Opener ‘Bully For You’ leads with slinky guitar loops and crisp percussion making way for a cheeky yet inspired harmonica theme. Sultry, whispered vocals ask “are you ready”, as the track builds on its already euphoric tendencies. Just under four minutes, and with a glorious ambient coda, it’s a perfect crystallisation of Ward’s influences and impulses. Think I. Jordan or Finn with more overt pop sensibilities.

Percussion mastermind Ploy (@deejayploy) arrives on Dekmantel with a double-pack of unbridled dancefloor heat that sees him reconnecting with his house roots.

Before he made a striking breakthrough as Ploy with wayward broken techno for Hessle Audio and Timedance, Samuel Smith's first releases as Samuel were leftfield house excursions. On this release for Dekmantel he wanted to reflect on a decade of releasing music and the many high-impact dancefloors he's shared with the label, from Selectors to De School, over the years.

The common denominator across these eight tracks is no-nonsense house, offering up grooves that will serve a DJ exactly what they want in the mix. At the same time, Ploy doesn't dilute the distinctive edge of his sound, from the abundance of perfectly balanced percussion to the nagging hooks of an off-key synth line dropped at just the right moment. Wry samples inject the mischievous humour he's always creeping into his craft. This is where dancefloor magic is nurtured, hitting the sweet spot between rock solid reliability and the wild card energy that brings a heads-down set to life.

From 'Admirer's big room peaks to 'It's Later Than You Think's cosmic incantations, this is the sound of Ploy showing exactly what it takes to make laser-focused club bombs without losing one iota of his inimitable style.

Some thoughts don’t leave you. Some questions linger long after they’ve been asked. Dom Apes’ Wasted Energy EP exists in that space between contemplation and release, between old cycles and new perspectives. Written during a period of upheaval, the record reflects on loss, rejection, and uncertainty, but also on clarity, reinvention, and quiet hope.

The EP rounds off with Fuelless Consumption, which came together on a sober Friday night, written as Dom questioned whether music would still hit the same without the crutch of alcohol. A swelling, introspective closer, it leans into deep, somber textures, like coming up for air after a long night out. It shifts the energy just enough to feel like an ending, but one that leaves the door slightly open.

Created between London and the North East, Wasted Energy sits in the push and pull between movement and stillness, between city life and solitude. It’s the sound of memories resurfacing, of lost ideas finding a new home, and of music acting as both an anchor and a release.

Baltra’s sound is like stumbling into a dream at 3am – it’s hazy, pulsating and dripping with emotion. He’s been honing it ever since breaking out in the lo-fi house explosion of the mid 2010s. Originally from Philadelphia, Michael Baltra discovered his love of dance music in New York. The raves he lost his mind at in the Meatpacking District took him towards DJing, then production, fascinated by the emotion he could evoke in the listener. Debuting with ‘The Vision’ in 2014, his dusty drums and ‘80s-era vocals quickly brought him a wide fanbase. Baltra’s work within the genres of lo-fi and filter house, though, inevitably led to him being boxed into those genres. He’s always shrugged off any pigeonholing, as his production
shows he moves mercurially through dubstep, jungle, electro, ambient and beyond – releasing on labels including Local Action, Shall Not Fade and Future Classic. Alongside new EPs for Keinemusik’s sub-label VOD and Rinse FM, Baltra is dedicatedly building up his 96 and Forever label. Through it he self-released his debut album, 2019’s Ted – a work dedicated to his late father, who passed away from cancer. His dad had been a keen songwriter, and Baltra sampled his work on the record, which was praised for its engulfing melodies and euphoric synth washes. Already a prolific releaser, this year sees a concerted effort by Baltra to unveil his most forward-thinking music yet. Singles ‘Echoes of Us’ fuses tunneling psych with euphoria, while ‘Twisted Ways’ darts between nifty synths and a scuttling low-end bassline.
