This BLUES to JAZZ to DUB to Cello INDIE to gratitude MANTRA GROWsutra EP is for humans who carem and dare to be brave... and sometimes may even "weep, just knowing dogs exist"! Fair warning: it makes my heart howl, loud and long and deep inside :) 

Lyrics inspired by a friend who triggered the (good:) remembering of my WOW feelings as a teenager, after reading Herman Hesse's fabulous tale of the "Steppenwolf"--a powerfool story of not knowing yet knowing, that despair is as glorious as laughter, and tender wonder is simply everything!

DEFY is a soul-deep, whispered scream BLOWsutra EP in 7 Tracks, which started with one question: “What are we doing?”

That’s the question @defiance13 asked in a heartfelt #TikTok monologue that cracked something in me. He was not being not rhetorical—he was being real. Caring. Conscious. Raw. Clear. Bright. Informed. Logical. Ethical. Philosophical. Outraged. Defiant. And I weeped, silently, in empathy. He sounded like Hope, with a capital H, like, just Human.

This EP is what came out of sitting with that question. Not answers, but grief. Not slogans, but songs.Three core truths, seven different renderings of them—raw and low, no sweetening. Just me, my conscience, and my lyrics. Because lyrics matter. Because denial is poison. Because silence isn’t neutral. And defiance ain’t optional.

The first song [track 1-2], “Shameless,” opens with the bitter contrast between past fascism and its modern American rebrand. Because that’s right, back then, the horrors were hidden—curtained, whispered, denied. Now? They’re streamed in HD with hashtags and lawn chairs. Cages rise from the swamp, and people cheer for suffering like it’s a half-time show. It’s not about subtle policies or gray areas, it’s about social media. It’s a freaks spectacle, people who decorate detention centers with patriotism.

The second song [track 3-5], “Optics of Cruelty,” calls out the calculated aesthetics of power. It’s not a glitch—it’s the blueprint. As the original monologue says, “You’re not witnessing the echoes of history, you’re watching its reanimation.” This track goes straight into the rot of performance-based fascism. It’s about how this country penciled out the price of a child’s life—just under $109,000—and still dared to call it justice. But children are not budget lines. They’re our only true wealth. And the exchange rate is human decency.

Each version of these songs brings out a slightly different truth—one more bluesy, one more folk, one more hypnotic or theatrical. They’re not remixes. They’re re-feelings. … because life on earth is a Psychedelic Cabaret, and “music is the only religion that delivers the goods” (like Frank said). 

To be clear, all I really know is I dunno shit about fck (like Socrates said:)—music and songwriting included. But(t) I feel it, the music, so damn deeep in my soul! I’m just a humble existential fool, a silly banana who likes to play and share, to question and learn. Words are my oldest best friends, hearing myself sing is a freaking miracle (trust me on that lol), and I believe curiosity and #gratitude are the keys to happiness… So voilà, there’s that.

Also, (if you’re curious) BananaSutra is not just a made up BS brand kinda word, it’s actually the name of my DIY Bible—a collection of songs telling true stories of faith, to help me (and perhaps you) make sense of a world gone wild, like bananas gone foul in shallow ignorance and deadly malevolence… Think of it as an agnostic testament of sorts, an audio book of songs with quirky lyrics about things that matter, like the definition of right and wrong, and the meaning of truth, joy, justice, peace, grace, and awe 🕊️
