Modelos verticales sostenibles que están transformando el sector agrícola

Latin America and the Caribbean are home to the most significant species and ecosystem diversity on the planet: more than 40% of the world's biodiversity, including almost a third of the planet's freshwater and nearly half of its tropical forests. 

The region is home to six of the world's most biodiverse countries (Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela) and stores approximately 104 gigatons of carbon, with the Amazon region storing around 10% of global carbon. However, human activities, deforestation and the emission of products and chemicals that damage nature, increase the loss of resources and affect almost 40% of the world's population. But there are positive mechanisms and actions for nature that would help us to combat climate change and biodiversity loss. 

Today in this new episode of IT’S POSSIBLE we'll discuss why and how investing in nature pays off. We will hear firsthand how this agenda is advancing in the region with three expert guests Carlos Manuel Rodríguez, CEO of the Global Environmental Facility (GEF), Laura Ortiz Montemayor, Chief Purpose Officer of SVX Mexico, and Mariana Bellot, Senior Technical Advisor at The Biodiversity Finance Initiative, BIOFIN.

In 2019, our country office in Jamaica launched the Project Executing Units' Challenge to promote sharing and learning from each other as well as improve execution results. 

The Challenge had 4 main goals:
1.	encourage excellence in project management; 
2.	serve as a platform for knowledge exchange;
3.	identify best practices; 
4.	recognize the commitment to development results.

In this podcast, our host Golda Lee Bruce, Development Storyteller at the IDB, has a conversation with this year's winning team, the Project Sector Transformation Program, represented by Maria Thompson Walters and Richard Panton. Additionally, Adriana La Valley, IDB Chief of Operations in Jamaica, also shares the importance of the challenge and key lessons on project management from her 3 years in the country.

As International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Women’s History week in The Bahamas approaches, domestic violence in the region and in The Bahamas is on the rise. In this podcast, we speak with three change agents working to combat the scourge of gender-based violence. Tune in as we speak with Khandi Gibson - founder of one of the first shelters in the country; Dr. Rochelle Lightbourn – the Citizens Security coordinator charged with training community residents on how to recognize Domestic Violence; and Marisa Mason-Smith – the Advocacy Chair for the Zonta Club of New Providence’s 16 Days of Activism campaign.
