COLT became popular in 2011, releasing their first album that took its place among best rock albums of the year on Latvian Music Recording Awards “Golden Microphone”, but their melodic rock sound has been known for years as they come from one of the most important music centers in Latvia.
The band came together to record single song as an experimental project by guitarists/songwriters Harijs Zariņš (a.k.a. Haris) and Rolands Majors. Back then, the new discovered rock singer Atis Ieviņš was nicknamed “Iron Throat” by the largest Latvian record company “MicRec” due to his ability to sing super high, distorted notes and thick timbre. There was no doubts that he’s the one for the team. Fueled by a common interest in rock music, they started to put ideas together and the project resulted in successful hard rock band. The band is considered to be raised from post-soviet hard rock movement since foundation of Latvian hard rock legend Opus Pro in 1986, led by Haris. And since then, they have played in greatest rock events in Latvia along with “Whitesnake”, “ZZ Top”, “Nazareth”, “Slade”, “Sweet”, “Bjork”, “CCR”, “Ария”, “Accept”, Suzie Quatro and many others. COLT became more rhythmically sophisticated and modern after teaming up with drummer Kaspars Pļavnieks and bass guitarist Toms Veismanis, but still its roots comes from classic rock and heavy metal. COLT musicians have always stated that the melodiousness is the most important element in their music. Aivars Hermanis, the general manager of “Arena Riga”, when speaking of Latvian temporary music, once characterized: “There are musicians you can count on two hands, who are representing rhythmic music and are able to fill full, almost thousand-seat concert venues. “Instrumenti”, “Brainstorm”, “Colt” – their music is professional and interesting. Right now COLT is actively touring and composing material for their 4th album, also they are interested to play shows around the Europe and has been writing songs in three different languages as they are getting asked for more by their listeners.
COLT guys are creating kind of music they enjoy and wants to reveal their perception of life to their listeners, exchange positive emotions and connect through rock ‘n’ roll in the way it should be – a celebration of life.
