Back on our Radio 80000 takeover with a mix by Chananja and Tember. The sonic fusion of two worlds. While Tember goes pluckily from erratic polyrhythms to freak folk or east coast club music, Chananja draws inspiration from delicacy and chaos to craft intricate sonic worlds, taking listeners on a journey from noise to poetry, broken beats to experimental folk.

Together they created a mix exploring the in-between of experimental forms of sound and music.

"The mix is caracterized by Vivaldi’s seminal ‘Four Seasons’ where every cycle starts with one of Vivaldi’s pieces and could be looped afterwards to start a new year. In this mix we traverse through freak folk, plainchant, noise, modern club, avant-garde vocalists, broken beats and anything that reminds us of a time or season.'"

From grimy ghetto verses dissolving over native folk chants, to improvised jazz cuts blended together with grunge noises, Jake digs ambidance prototypes, percussive field recordings and Asian strings, making unexpected choices between niche artists and inedit productions. Worth the attention of @crackmagazine, @bleep_bot and DJ Python’s show on @rinsefm, his productions are a mindful collage of both sampled and synthetic sound-crafts.

This month: Know V.A. - the long-standing Amsterdam duo are one of the Netherlands’ forefront explorers of genre bending club music. Pulling influences from their youths spent at hardcore and rave parties, and an immense love for U.K. bass, their range is boundless and their music and DJ sets burst with dynamics. Their musical versatility puts them at home at illegal raves, major festivals like Lowlands and Defqon.1, electronic arts festivals like Fiber Festival or Prague’s Lunchmeat, BBC 1Xtra, NTS and Asia’s underground nightclubs.

Strange Days #4 - Know V.A. - Echobox 07/07/23

This week we're all about "low-end hitters and dancehall business", as the Warsaw-based DJ and vocalist hermeneia is at the helm of our Rhythmic Culture podcast. Not only is she running the FURDA event series – she's also associated with Unsound Festival and holds down a regular show on LYL and Noods Radio. In the 46-minute journey she delivers, hermeneia takes you into the head-wobbly realms of soundsystem music – this one will be on repeat for a while.
