I recorded the entire album live in the room above Lindberg's Bar here in Springfield. It was an old school production—two microphones—my friends and I mixed the album by positioning ourselves in the room on the fly. It was a fun way to record, and the album wound up sounding warm and alive. You can hear the room—a foot tapping on the hardwood floor, traffic driving by on Commercial Street, even the train a block north. Lindberg's has history. The room we recorded in started out as a brothel in the late 1800s. The building has soaked up so much music and so many stories over the past century—I just wanted a little bit of that to wind up on the record without distracting from the songs.

Learning some new recording/mixing software. I remixed and added some drums to one of the songs I wrote for the Winter Beards album I did with Joel Lamm back in 2010.

I wrote “What We Talk About” the morning after the 2024 election. It spilled out quickly—a cathartic release for the anxiety I was feeling. I finished and read back over the lyrics and was pleased that it seemed more positive than negative. These are the things we’ll keep talking about and working for.
