ABOUT | Highly-awarded bluegrass (and more) mandolinist Thomas Cassell teams-up with 2x GRAMMY-winner Becky Buller to write his debut Mountain Fever Records single, "Traveling Shoes." The song—a sonically warm and welcoming affair—recounts a day in the life of...well, you name it. But perhaps its a best-fit autobiography, of sorts, for life on the road? Cassell's vocals really sell the broad range of emotions musicians must go through, and all they have to leave behind, to pursue their passions. SHORT BIO | Originally from the sacred bluegrass mountains of southwestern Virginia, Thomas Cassell is among the highest rank of modern bluegrass musicians. Cassell is a founding member of respected progressive group Circus No. 9, and has performed with Billy Strings, the Bryan Sutton Band, Jim Lauderdale, Missy Raines, Becky Buller, and countless others. Now a resident of Nashville, TN, he is cultivating new and original music—not ignorant of the great traditions that preceded him. In 2021 Cassell was named the National Mandolin Champion. He was also named the 2020 Momentum Instrumentalist of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association, 2021 FreshGrass Mandolin Champion, and 2016 Rockygrass Mandolin Champion.

Satyagrah is a celebration of the truth. It is also a

tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, who instilled the value of

the truth with this movement.

Music is a constant quest for the truth, which is in our

hearts. It is a process of self realisation, and if the artist

is true to themselves, then they can communicate

directly from their heart to the listener.

This song takes the Raga JansamMohini and put it in a

drum and bass framework. There is a great deal of interplay between the two sitar Sounds, the acoustic

and the electric.

In this song which is releasing as the first single in my

album, “Sitar stories”, I have highlighted how the two

sitars, the resident acoustic Sitar and the AG electric

Sitar have this into play with each other and bring out

the truth and beauty that lies in music, which is straight

from the heart.

As John Keats said “ truth, beauty, beauty, truth, that’s

all you know, and need to know”
