Barbara Cuesta has come a long way. From indie-pop talent with a major label contract, who released her first German album in 2005, to working as a theater musician, to the second English album "Shine" (2011). The singer-songwriter became a self-confident queer woman with the ability to critically reflect on her position within society: "I have dealt intensively with the issues of origin, my family's migration history and also with my privileges as a white person with access to funding.“ A development that now culminates in a new, politically conscious album "Euforia". And in starting her own label, Santinanes Records, named after her family's home village in Spain.
"Euforia" pursues a queer approach that understands music as an intersectional art form. As a medium that asks questions – not only about what is being talked about, but also about who is speaking: “All genders are represented among those involved in the production, everyone is queer and/or has a migration background.”
