Mummies

Blessings on this ancient celebration of life, Bealtaine, the dawn of summer. The birds sing and the sun shines, and all nature begins to dance. Roll in the meadows, buzz like bees, frolic in the birch trees, sow your seeds. Traditionally two bonfires would burn, and blessings would be bestowed upon those who pass through. Sure, two candles could do this year!

I’ve made this mix in honour of this celebration, with full intention. Usually we’d all be at the ancient, sacred hill of Uisneach right now, where for thousands of years the first fire of Irish summer was lit. But seeing as it’s not possible for us to be there physically this year, I have brought some of the sounds of the ceremony into this mix, so we can be there in spirit. 

When I think of Bealtaine, I think back to ancient times, when the animals and elements were the gods, and the landscapes were our temples. Meeting a bird, for example, was (/is) meeting a god. The wind is a goddess whispering in your ear. I think of nymphs and centaurs, the Dionysian mysteries, and the fairies, and forests full of joyous laughter and love. These are the kind of thoughts I've been holding as I put together this mix.  

It is said that it was on this day that the Tuatha Dé Danann arrived here in Ireland. The bridge to the fairy realm is open, I wish you all a mystic voyage. Beannactaí na Bealtaine- thugamar féin an samhradh linn!
