The album version of "The Shiny Unfeeling" is my favorite Miss Alans song, and one of the greatest jangly guitar songs ever, by anybody. This version -- recorded at the Wild Blue in Fresno on March 30, 1991 as part of the recordings that yielded ALL HAIL DISCORDIA -- is more ragged, with Scott & Manny stumbling into the counterpointy vocals at first, and gaining confidence as the entire band slowly comes into support, pausing for just a moment before exploding into the song.  Anchored by a big, burbling bass, courtesy of Mr. Jay Fung, this live version is pure rock and roll, slowing down only for Scott and Manny to sing against each other again until Ron gets impatient and builds it back into overdrive once more.  ALRIGHT!!
