This time last week then was my first proper gig in front of a legally dancing crowd, as BED ROOM teamed up with Midnight Club in San Cristóbal, and we absolutely smashed it!

I couldn’t stop smiling throughout the duration of this set. The energy in the room with the crowd was one of total harmony, and I felt in very safe hands to be able to express myself with the music, as we danced the night away.

I’m currently on a World Tour of Mexico right now for Winter, having already managed to play gigs in Holbox and San Cristóbal. Now, I find myself based in Puerto Escondido, over on the Pacific coast, where it’s all about the surf and an emerging electronic music scene.

BED ROOM | BARLOW @ Midnight Club, México | Melodic Techno Set

After recently discovering that Ben had recorded an Essential Mix for Radio 1, I was reminded of this mix that I had curated sat on my bedroom floor a while back. 

It was over 2 and a half years ago that I first discovered Ben and his intimate sound, when I listened to his debut Anjunadeep Edition. I instantly connected with the music, at a time when I was very lost in life with no direction. Music saved me and enabled me to go on a deep exploration of who I was and what this life is. That’s the beautiful thing with music, it can be used in so many different ways, it has no boundaries. 

When I finally got to see Ben play for the first time, was also the first time that I fully embraced attending an event on my own. Anjunadeep at Printworks, back in 2019, when Covid was something that only existed in China. 

A friend had let me down at the last minute and I was on crutches with a ruptured ACL. But 3 months I had been waiting for this. I’d never had so much excitement and anticipation for an event before, although I was worried that I may have overhyped the day. 

My first Anjunadeep gig then, my virginity lost. The experience was better than I could have imagined, and Ben stole the show with a 1 and a half hour set of raw power. Unbelievable, and it was only 6 o’clock in the afternoon. 

The day that I play Printworks, will be one to remember. For now though, I offer you my favourite records, of an already monstrous collection by this young talented artist, who still has so much to give.

This then is the second episode of me, BARLoW, playing live for BED ROOM on a rooftop in Santa Eularia over on the East Coast of Ibiza. Sharing the best in Progressive House & Melodic Techno this week for you all to enjoy. 

All the tracks that features in this mix I came across when over in Mexico this Winter, and have only now just had a chance to sit down and sort through which are my favourites and make this for you all.

I'm really happy that I made the change over to Traktor from Rekordbox, however I'm still getting to grips with using my new equipment. I was really pleased with the outcome of this mix, and hopefully we can begin to hear the advancement in all the mixes that I start banging out!!

Welcome to BED ROOM Radio. A new weekly show that will explore all that is underground electronic music with yours truly, BARLOW.

And I'm so so so excited to be able to kick this new project off with a very special set, my debut at the legendary Pacha in Ibiza, where I was ever so fortunate to play in the Funky Room hosted by Namaste for the party of Flower Power.

This episode will feature the first hour of that set, which was a mixture of tribal, funky and house classic vibes. A really high energy set! (as you'll hear from the crowd). 

I was also playing out with Traktor and my own equipment for the very first time, so it was a great opportunity for me to be able to display what I've been learning these past 8 months, since making the switch over from CDJs and Rekordbox.

After another magical sunset in Benirras, not even the dark could stop me playing on this one. We were rolling in this 2nd hour, tunes were flying about everywhere and this brought out a new level of DJ’ing in me, discovering new tricks for the first time. So it gives me great pleasure to be able to bring you the follow up to last week, where we were just getting things started.

It’s going to be 60 minutes of peak time progressive house for you. Expect big energy from start to finish. So if you’re at the gym, running around the block or about to start a new work project, this is certainly going to give you the motivation to smash it!

The start of a mini tour around the white isle of Ibiza in preparation for a grand Summer here in 2023.

First stop, one of the most legendary beaches and chiringuitos, Sa Trinxa at Las Salinas Beach. Now I would love to grab a residency slot here this Summer, so if there’s anyone out there watching that can help, please hit me up!! I hope that this video and mix goes to show the skills, talent and energy that I can bring to your beach bar and inject some new youth and passion into the family.

It’s beach vibes at Strinxa, where the nearest club is DC10 down the road, so it’s pumping House music to get your grooving, bopping your head, tapping ya feet, swaying your hips, sipping on your mojito, basking in the balearic sun. You know it’s right.

In homage to that performance in the desert by Rufus Du Sol live from Joshua Tree, I decided to put together a mix of my favourite songs of theirs. Having only just recently discovered this electronic talent, and listening to the latest 3 albums in that time, putting this mix together was a no brainer. It’s a sound in music at the moment that is like no other, and one that I just had to share with yourselves!
 
I decided to give my favourite track a second spin at the end as a sort of encore; do you agree with my choice?! Did your favourite track make it into the mix!? Or was there one that I missed?

Apologies to everyone for the wrong show being aired live this Wednesday. On what proved to be my last show.

The mix is my interpretation of Ezequiel Arias' and Deeparture’s mixing style using a collection of songs that I've only just recently discovered, as well as some that have been in My Library for a while. So it's chilled deep house vibes, is what i'd call it.

Episode III - The One, That Should Have Been Played

Like all Anjuna fans, I was deeply saddened to hear about the cancellation of Explorations Festival in Albania, however it was most definitely the correct decision. But at least we have 2021 to look forward too... hopefully.

Onto the mix then, and the third instalment of the Anjunadeep series. Playing host to new music from the likes of Jody Wisternoff, Luttrell and Ezequiel Arias. 'Emochine' is a groove that you can't help but dance to, so hats off to Jody for this one.

In the mix you will also find some Anjunadeep classics from Lane 8 and Yotto that are still sounding fresh today. And of course, there had to be some Ben Böhmer featured, that man is a record making machine. If you haven't yet watched his live set for Anjunadeep at Printworks, then you know where to go next. The best 90 minutes of my life to date.

I haven't even had time to make the artwork. I just put this together on a Sunday Evening after not having a very good day. And yet again I was shown that 'Music Is The Answer'. Whenever I'm down, or happy or sad or anxious, Music is the constant. 

And the man who has stayed constant in my life, is this guy. As Pete Tong would say... "The Man. The Myth. The Legend." Words can't describe how much I love this guy and look up to him for inspiration, so I made this instead. 

For those that follow me, I'm going to say it again... My Best Piece Of Work To Date. The happiness I felt putting this together was unreal. No preparation on this one again from me, just straight track after track with whatever's flowing.

I really really hope you guys and girls like this one just as much as I do, and hey... maybe we'll get a listen from the man himself.
