Welcoming our latest guests to the Leisure Club Mixtape series, our long-time favourite funk-folks Video Age from the land of po-boys, jazz clubs and the melting pot of cultures, New Orleans.

Playing music together for the last decade and longtime friends from their early years coming up in the DIY scene, Ross Farbe (vocals/guitar) and Ray Micarelli (drums) began the project with their debut album in 2016 and have been crafting their signature early 80's synth-pop sound with experimentation and collaboration playing an important role in their magic-making recording process. 

Since catching our attention with their second full-length album Pop Therapy back in 2018, it's safe to say we're delighted to have them join us for a quick mixtape after regular inclusions in our Poolside Etiquette playlist over the years. 

We caught up with the dynamic duo on the blog to chat about life, being back on the road and emerging bands to keep an eye on. Stream the mixtape via our SoundCloud and peep the full interview below.

This is French House meets fjords, Deep House meets state bureaucracy,
a schemer's lullaby in groove minor.

Bassline walks in like velvet.  
Norwegian girl hums behind a synth breeze. 

 🎵 Hmm hmm hmm… Oslo money dreams…

Direct route to Oslo —  
cash dreams wrapped in snow.  
Said “hello,” she said “maybe so,”  
then she laughed… real low.

I flew in broke, coat too thin,  
tried to flirt with a borrowed grin.  
Told her “baby, I love your land,”  
while Googling her dad’s investment plan.

Said I like salmon, peace, and pines —
but I just want those oil-based lines.
She smiled like she’d seen my kind,  
and poured Aquavit like I’d crossed a line.

Direct route to Oslo —  
one kiss, one cold “no.”  
The Fund’s not made for guys like me…  
she hummed a tune, and let me be.
 
Turns out she worked for the Ministry,  
she knew my scheme by line three.  
She smiled and said, “Nice try, my dear,”  
then left me with the check — and beer.

So now I queue at Building B,  
with passport, shame, and ID-3.  
They said, “Submit Form 84-A,”  
to admire the Fund — from far away.

Now I sip coffee by the bay,  
still dancing to the things she didn’t say.  
No ring. No Fund. No show.  
Just a groove… and Oslo.

@Get-Down-Edits are Darren 'Daz' Dalton & Martin Roche, they live in their home city of Waterford in Southern Ireland, the duo are tearing it up on dance floors nationally and internationally - supported, played and loved by Greg Wilson, Cosmic Boogie, Dicky Trisco, The Revenge, Kev Beadle, Doc Martin, Pete Herbert, Jacques Renault, Deadly Sins, Ltj Xperience, House Of Disco Records & Rudy's Midnight Machine just to name a few. The lads have released music on other great labels of the disco world such as Disco Deviance, Editors kutz, File under disco, Midnight Riot, Paper disco, Wall of fame & Queen and Disco.

Daz and Martin have progressed from playing local clubnights around Waterford, to hitting the decks every weekend at parties in Cork, Galway, Dublin and Belfast as well as many festivals nationally (Indiependance, Body & Soul, Gateways, Electric Picnic, Sea Sessions) and festivals overseas such as a  Electric Elephant Festival in Croatia, Glastonbury, Liverpool Disco Festival and Brighton Pride festival. Their mixing & production talents have taken the duo to DJ in places as far as London, Liverpool, Leeds, Dundee, Newcastle, Hamburg, Paris, Tel Aviv, Budapest, Brussells, Greece, Italy and a tour of Mexico in 2015.
