German sound pioneer Hans-Joachim Roedelius and American composer Tim Story ring in the New Year with a sizzling prepared piano piece, fittingly named Crisscrossing.

Weaving together forty years of friendship, the eleven pieces on their forthcoming Erased Tapes debut 4 Hands, out February 25, convey restraint and empathy, and a way of communicating beyond words.

"Together we shaped the basic compositions, sometimes carefully preparing the piano with various materials (including my own hands), and Achim’s performances were committed to tape. I continued to compose and refine my parts in the following months. Because it was all recorded on the same piano, the result has a very appealing consistency of sound, and hopefully blurs our individual contributions into a single integrated voice” — Tim Story

Manchester-based DJ Aletha's tastes stretch far and wide. She's just as comfortable meandering through blissed-out ambient and jazz, in its many forms, as she is shelling out electro, acid, jungle and breaks in a dark room. This versatility is exactly why she's had such a meteoric rise in the last few years.

As well as playing at a lengthy list of venues and festivals across Europe, when at home you can find her channeling her wealth of musical finds through her monthly radio shows on Sable and Melodic Distraction. 2021 has seen her rise even further up the ranks. On top of sets at We Out Here, Lobster Fest and Dimensions, she became one of this season's residents at The Warehouse Project, alongside the likes of Jaguar, India Jordan and Gina Breeze.

She steps up to the plate for this week's mix which is another testament to her ability to effortlessly blend different flavours and styles, from broken beat and UK bass to acid and vintage house.

Depuis 2012, des sorties strictement vinyls en tirage limité, avec des galettes pressés aux petits oignons, du design à la presse, des pochettes sérigraphiées à la main via Polygon Press gérées par Tracy. Au-delà de ZamZam, ils dirigent également le label Khaliphonic qui explore des sonorités mondiales passées à la moulinette Dub comme Los Gaiteros De San Jacinto et leur cumbia ancestrale, l'ambient avec Sam Binga & Welfare et plus encore. Acteurs incontournable, ils font partie de cette grande famille qui inonde les ondes aux côtés de Bristol avec Dubkasm et Gorgon Sound, depuis Tokyo chez Disc Shop Zero ou Undefined, en France avec Von D et OBF.
C'est à Portland, Oregon que le QG et l'esprit de ce label est ancré. Issu du défunt label BSI (Bucolic Sound Investigations) tenu par Ezra aka E3 qui perpetue cet engagement au service du dub et de ses valeurs avec des artistes cultes tel Muslimgauze, King Jammy, Jah Warrior, Henry & Louis, The Rootsman...Le label s'éteint au milieu des années 2000 et c'est en 2012 il y a maintenant 10 ans que ZamZam est crée par Ezra et Tracy. Depuis, ce label est devenu incontournable, pourrait-on dire même crucial. En 2018, c'est au Telerama Dub Festival de Paris qu'ils se sont produits pour une dance accompagné du Sinaï Sound System. Les présent-e-s s'en rappellent encore !

Le label fêtera 10 ans d'activisme le 30 Juin au Outlook Festival avec un line-up incendiaire : 
Adam Prescott, Al Wootton, Dubkasm, J.Sparrow B2B J:Kenzo, Marcus Anbessa, Maria, Om Unit, Rider shafique, Sun of Selah et bien sûr ZamZam Sounds themselves E3 & TR.

It feels redundant to introduce a duo so beloved by, and important to, the modern UK and global sound system community. If you don’t know Dubkasm by now, then you must be very new to the scene indeed! Working tirelessly over the last two and a half decades to forward the traditions of sound system reggae, dubplate culture, and Bristol history in particular, Stryda and Digistep as Dubkasm are truly an institution. It’s always an honor to work with them, whether live or on wax, and this record is another testament to their continuing vitality, vibes, and vision. 

“Mighty Designer” is a mystical stepper of the highest order. Gorgeous flute rides a tough riddim dominated by a relentless bassline. Clocking in at 140 bpm it’s both languid and driving, heartical and militant, an opalescent jewel of a tune that is also message music: while the second half goes full dubwise, the first features a profound meditation on the wisdom of the Creator as witnessed in the beauty and balance of Creation. “When you check out… how each thing set up in a different mathematical order- you know it must be a Mighty Designer…”

On the flip, the abstract intro to “Almighty Version” signals we’re in for a tougher Part-2-style. Percussion and hi-hat tease and intertwine before dropping into the elemental bass & drum attack. The voice is stripped completely, as all-hands-on-desk focus on bass, drums, filtered percussion, and reverb and echo as instruments. Animal sounds and melodics emerge from a dense, primordial, teeming background to shimmer briefly then recede again. “Almighty Version” is a trance-inducing dub that continues the meditation on the message - through music alone.

Electric Dandelion first caught our attention while compiling The Bloom Series compilations in 2013, his tune Bass Tribe made his debut strong, holding out at #29 on the Addictech.com top downloads of 2013. More recently he was referred to on audioimpactentertainment.com as one of the standout acts of Southern California’s Lucidity Festival.

Metamorphosis is his debut full length release and truly reflects an ageless festival sound, rooted in Dub influences throughout and switching up beats with Trap nuances into Psychedelic Dub and even deeper Dubstep. The instrumentation is combination of analog and digital sounds and if this is one of the futures of festival Dub music then we are heading to good places.

Electric Dandelion is a multi instrumental artist who has been producing electronic music for the past 15 years. He combines solfeggio healing frequencies with his own original music to create a unique sound filled with  unforgettable soundscapes and heavy basslines. Electric Dandelion combines organic and electronic elements to create a mood that takes the listener on an extraordinary journey into unchartered musical wave forms. Electric Dandelion's  music has been selected for compilations, documentaries, commercials and short films such as The Bloom Series Vol 1: Fundamental Frequencies (Muti Music), Ascension(Red Bull), Adidas and Macy's. Electric Dandelion currently has a residency with BurnLA.
