I've taken too many blows that weren't softened
and been used as a punching bag way too often
by people who notice things in me that they hate about themselves
dumping their shame onto me
I do it too, just not to people's faces 
but behind their backs because that way's the safest
most of my hatred stays hidden
just lurking in the shadows where no one can fully see
my life is the worst that its been and I hate it
but every single time I try to escape it
I just end up reverting back to my old ways
it seems like people rarely actually change
I'll only cheer up to ultimately feel sad
a drug binge right after getting out of rehab
all of those addicts are so far gone
I don't have hope for anybody much less myself
I regret not having a life that's fulfilling
like going to work in a government building 
saving money to buy a house
with a backyard to unwind in at the end of the day
spend my weekends hanging out at a cottage
reminiscing with old friends about college
instead I'm here by myself feeling embarrassed 
with nowhere to be and nothing to say
