Just one more Summer of Love.. It occurred to me that the ever decreasing circle of the last two millennia of human history has spun us around to a similar point in time to that of fifty or so years ago. 

The great spirit we call the Universe seems to be saying;
'Look, have another go at this, 'do it all over again..' 
..try a bit softer; as this part of the journey is ending, maybe it's time to get on the right path..'

..contrary to what one might think, 
'Summer of Love' isn't about any girl in particular, 
moreover.. It's a song to the Mother.. 
the Earth.. from whose Love we came.. 
and whose Love we should return.. 
There is only Joy in giving, that is,. Loving.. Giving Love! 
'just one more Summer of Love', like many songs, has been, and is yet still a journey. I wrote the Lyrics and Melodies in 2001 originally, and I undertook this stage of the journey solo, with very basic kit, (see below) in Pembroke and Bushbury, Wolverhampton, in the West Middle Kingdom.

Summer was recorded and mixed on a coal-fired 1998 600 mhz pc with 128mb ram (yes, really.. 128mb ram - You could see the steam blasting out the sides during the latter stages..mind you.. it was a coal fired pooter.. still using it now! :) 

I used an old copy of the great Cooledit, a Yamaha SY85 keyboard, 
a cheap condenser, an acoustic guitar, persistence... and a fair old dollop of Love.

I lately find me tired of endless treadmill days, and TV dinners, served on plastic trays..
I'm boxed in with my gadgets and I'm feeling nothing 
but the suck of screens, and blast of microwaves.. 

I've smoked enough to stone a billion crows, skipped by obliteration, how god only knows.. 
I've sat here at my easel, drawn my own conclusions, funny how my ego, painted such delusion..

Forgetting what I came here for, living to consume.. the mother cries for me, while I'm crying for the moon.. 

Freed myself once more I'm here with sea and sunshine, feeling love, playing guitar singing and smiling.. 
Nights and days of joy and tears will come, and go, 
as to the centre of my years my journey flows..
 
Your life is what you make, have you forgotten what you know..
become your own creation yeah.. growing with the flow.. 

As I was falling music came to me last night it told me everything
will be alright.. it sang a tune that turned, into and out of me and you.. all winding softly lively pure and true.. oh oh oh.. 

Now I feel to do what must be done, I'm reeling rhyme and reason, answers have I none, the melody, keeps flowing through my heart and soul. warp factor nine, I'm sailing, as it leads me home..

Remembering what I came here for.. Love is all I know..

Yes, it's 'busy'.. ~ challenging perhaps.. this is intentional ~ I like to see how far I can take weaving melodies, riffs; counterpoint.. (perhaps my next recording might be less frenetic?)

Every day, every night I've been trying with all my might, I've been cyberactivatin' and trying to shed some light on all the problems man, that I can see.. Now I realise it's got to start with me. I could rant, I could rave, 'til I hit my grave, about star bangled spanners and corporate slaves consumer units, man.. But at least while I'm free.. I've got to be the change that I want to see.. And I know. Yes, I know. it's my problem too.. I cannot shirk responsibility..  I've got to be the change that I want to see..

Freshman acoustic guitar, Behringer B5 and C2 Microphones, Yamaha MG10XU Mixer, Novation Launchkey mkIII, Ableton Live Lite 11, Cubase AI 12, a lot of thought.. many many listens.. huge learning curve, shitloads of patience.. countless problems and glitches, technical crises.. and most importantly.. huge dollops of Love.. 
I forgot to mention: Time. This recording has taken a long time because I've had to relearn everything. So this process began, again in June 2023 when I decided to 'Do it all over again.. One more time..' 
The learning curve has also included learning to sing and play guitar again (!), and learning how to record.. So, yeah, time.. and love..

I'm going to be uploading various songs, live basic acoustic first takes, unrehearsed.. as they ask to be played..  - as I revisit a catalogue that stretches a way back.. as much  to spur me into actually finishing writing them as anything else! Here's my latest: https://soundcloud.com/barrie-v/castles-in-the-sky-dancin-fool-version-by-barrie-v  - these are 'songwriting doodles', mostly sat by the fireside with a jihad (which means guitar in olde Wulfrunian!) caught as they come to me and ask to be played.- so they're literally as they fly in, caught on an old minidisk recorder with a tiny electret condenser mic plugged straight into it.. (and as such, they're raw, and not in any way polished or 'produced'.. so for the moment this is raw songwriting as it happens stuff..) some are new, some from a way back..  asking to be played again.. they're like children.. growing.. : ) Time to breathe new life into these song children.. (what I've been doing is akin to sending yer kids out in tatty togs!) Sorry kids! I am on it! Promise! :)

Tripped-out sub-Stooge rock, instrumental electronica, and synth-laden Pop Metal from this U.K.-based stylistic schizoid. Psychedelia seems to be the one unifying element in these songs, but whatever genre is being explored, Barrie V attacks his work with innovation, fervour and creativity to produce futuristic sonic gems!

Excerpt from my (musical) cv:  I've worked and played with Stu Jones, Joe Gallagher, Parvinder Bharat, Sen Gallagher, Roland Chadwick, Dave Stewart of Eurythmics, Surinder Sandhu, Paul Lockley, ColdCut and Dreadzone, Mel Jones, amongst many others... too humorous to mention..
I collaborated and played with Dave Stewart, (Eurythmics/SweetDreamsAreMadeofThis) Coldcut and Dreadzone on the World’s first Tri-Continental multicast; broadcast live simultaneously over three continents, via the Internet, Radio and TV.. for the BBC's Tomorrow's World TV programme.
I arranged, produced, and played on the World's first non-stop two hour live acoustic radio session - one of the last live shows at what was the BBC's iconic Pebble Mill for BBC Radio's Ben Turner.. with Joe Gallagher, Stu Jones and other members of the Jamplant.
I've also played numerous other live sessions for BBC Radio, including BBC Radio, BBC Radio Yorkshire, WM, Radio WCR.. etc etc, The Sheep Music Festival, Wolverhampton Civic & Wulfrun Halls, and between 2002  - 2006 I played and ran live music nights, - the now legendary Jamplant - encouraging and showcasing new musical talent in Wolverhampton and Barnsley, totting up 600 live performances! Pheww..
I also play with words, lyrics, images.. visuals.. and philosophise a good deal. ..about tea mostly.. I have also been known to play a fine and unique selection of self-penned and 'cover material' for a very reasonable fee, and have been known to captivate audiences with jolly enjoyable slices of banter, scintillating repartee.. and by just by being rather splendid company!
