The weight of city life, this grind and choke begins to lose it's appeal as you recall everything you have sacrificed for this leap of faith. You have lost sight of yourself? You miss your home, family and friends...you have changed somehow, you don't know how yet but all you really know for sure is that something inside you is telling you to 'keep on going'. With this charged energy within, you know  in your heart that today is one day of many days and that one of these days, you will know yourself. Your resolve like a distant thunder rolls, for sicken we of the calm all those who know the storm...and the storm cometh

‘Tombs’ for all its macabre and dread conjuring is actually really a song about minding the frailty of others. We spend so much time behind walls that we build ourselves and for every person who has not or has yet to experience depression, there is someone who has or is currently enveloped by it. It’s a song about mindfulness, respect and understanding. My preferred reference is ‘Black Dog’ because it captures perfectly the pinning needfulness a dependant can demand and also the desire to give into it, to feed it, to have it curl up at your feet. It’s about accepting that it’s there and allowing your courteous well intending comrades to help if they can.

…’don’t close your eyes, stay tonight. Will you dot your “I’s” and cross your “t’s” when you write on my tomb?’

Whole Lotta Mean is a monster. It is the ellipsis of frustration, anger, doubt and fear. In this instance it relates directly to the loss of 4 years worth of digital recoding data that had not been backed up and so, this track emerged as a coping mechanism to not only deal with the loss but also, learn how to move through it. Behind the horror aspect of the track is a positive message that is saying 'Keep On Going!' and that is the true nature of what it's like living in London, you've got to hold onto yourself lest you be swept away in the tide.

'He Comes To Me With Trouble' is my most private song to date as it directly concerns my relationship of 15 years. This song is also loosely based on 'Cloud Atlas' by  David Mitchell, which leans into the idea of 'Fate' and this is something Rick and I feel very strongly about regarding our relationship as we believe wholeheartedly that we were always supposed to meet. The track has a dark tone which leads you through this idea of dread, toil and ultimately, trouble. Coming out at a young age together in a small town and the realisation that absolutely nothing about this was going to be in any way easy for either us, yet here we are, still at it, still together regardless. He Comes To Me With Trouble...and I follow.

Barry Locke is a singer songwriter from Bangor Northern Ireland currently based in Donaghadee. The past two years have been crucially cathartic for Barry as he has busied himself with the completion of his debut album ‘O N E ‘, essentially an auto biographical concept album. Never having a shortage of things to write about Barry has always looked deftly inward in order to explore themes and narratives that can translate well yet remain completely relatable. The through line of this introverted exploration is concerning the very danger of ‘self ‘as an endless knot of indecision and resolve.

  “I have always found it difficult to ‘create’ things to sing about and so I have always looked inward to myself and my own experiences. As far as I’m concerned, I live in constant state of flux, at times moving inexorably betwixt several ‘self’s’ jostling for prime position in my past, present and future. 'O N E' refers to one and all, it's in everything I've ever done, or will do. It’s all about returning themes and contexts.”

Supported by a voice that provides power and impact Barry effortlessly endears to hold on to the comforting tonal graces of his home town whilst honestly portraying the raw emotions you’d expect to hear when a young man bares his soul.
