I practiced and recorded this song a lot. It is a solo concert Otto Ketting wrote for his own final trumpet exam in 1958. I love it! It's atonal music, but the phrases and atmospheres are beautiful. This is one of the most recent takes from may 2014.

I wrote this happy song back in 1992 on my bike, it came to me at once, completely. The soloists all stick to 1 idea, that was their assignment.Tried to put some humor in the special chorus.

Gustav Mahler maakte best mooie akkoordenschemaatjes. Het leek me leuk om voor de kerst het Adagietto uit de 5e symphonie in een eigentijds Bigbandjasje te zetten. Adagietto houdt in dat het niet erg opschiet, maar ik heb de tijdsduur gehalveerd en er een vrolijke Braziliaanse twist aan gegeven. De titel moest ik daardoor wel veranderen, dus het heet nu The Painter. Blasfemisch? Best kans, maar ik heb me er kostelijk mee vermaakt en er een hoop van geleerd. Merry christmas allemaal!

Gustav Mahler had really decent harmonic skills. As an experiment  for christmas I re-arranged his famous Adagietto from the 5th symphony for Bigband and gave it a happy Brazilian twist. Due to the much faster tempo I felt like changing the title into The Painter. Blasfemic? Possibly, but I had a lot of fun and learned a lot from it. Merry Christmas everybody!

A composition of mine featuring Modal Interchange harmony. Beautifully sung by Rivka Worms who made the lyrics, and with Bert van den Brink on the piano, the late Bart Lust on trombone (probably his last recording), and me (Bart Noorman) on the flugelhorn.

That Day

I wrote this ballad to work with an harmonic progression I associate with the music of Claude Debussy (Busy Claude get it?). Is it a happy song? Is it a sad song? Thanks to Bert van den Brink for the accompaniment.
