Depuis nos débuts, nous n’avons pas cessé de nous cultiver musicalement et notre appétit pour la musique n’est jamais rassasié, surtout quand un jour nous tombons sur cette chanson méconnue de Nat Gonella. Dès la première écoute nous étions persuadés que nous avions trouvé un petit bijou à revisiter en électro swing. De plus la chanson est une métaphore qui assimile la relation entre les instruments d’orchestre à une histoire conjugale. KeX est également aux manettes de cette version moins connue que la version radio mais qui colle totalement à notre évolution musicale actuelle.

From the beginning, we have never stopped listening to music to continue to develop our taste. During one of those regular Sunday sessions on the Bart&Baker car system, we discovered the gem of a song "Troublesome Trumpet". This song was perfect to work on. It transforms the relationship between a man and a woman to the battle of instruments in an orchestra, hence the title. We also included the KeX version, which is rare and has beautifully matured.

[FRENCH] Nous avions redécouvert cette chanson  dans le spectacle que Pierre Santini avait conçu à partir des adaptations en français du répertoire du Paolo Conte. Nous avons voulu faire un clin d’œil à cette chanson latine et un brin machiste en invitant la belle Lada Redstar à joindre sa voix à celle de notre ami. Allez Viens fut à notre souvenir la première version remixée de Via Con Me et le début de nombreuses autres.

[ENGLISH] We re-discovered this classic song of Paolo Conte when we saw our friend, the multi-award winning movie and theater actor Pierre Santini, performing it in French on stage. We then decided to re-invent the track, with the inclusion of an italian female singer aka the burlesque star Lada Redstar - to provide a feminine approach to this rather masculine song. To our knowledge, this was the first remixed version of the Via Con Me track, and was subsequently followed by many other versions.

Bart & Baker (www.bartandbaker.com) are two venerable Parisian DJ/Producers, dressed in tuxedos and top hats. There are many dj’s playing retro style music but what makes Bart&Baker so unique is that they were the first back in 2005 to be able to mix old records with new, remix and revive old 1920’s music, scratching 1940’s and 50’s tracks and generally making new dance/house music from a vintage source.

As Bart&Baker says, “we pride ourselves on reinvention, using elements that already exist like vintage music, burlesque performance styles and costume so we were able to please or uncover the vintage music shades of rhythms to both vintage fans and modern kids”.

160 years of popular music reinvented and remixed by Bart&Baker
Famed for being one of the originators of the Electro Swing movement, songwriters and producers Bart&Baker have always demonstrated a tasted for "décalé" covers of well-known and unexpected tunes from the French and international repertoire.
Just before their 10 year Jubilee, the duet has decided to follow-on the success of their summer collection Deep House Tribute, with a new volume called Electro Swing Tribute.
In 20 tracks, Electro Swing Tribute delivers a personal collection of vintage tracks resuscitated  for the dance floor, and dance music reinvented in the electro swing style.
Amongst the collection there are new tracks, like 39 de fièvre, the French version of "Fever". This is performed by the French crooner Matthieu Boré and Clémentine, the most popular French singer in Japan, who has recorded more than 30 albums, performed with the greatest. 
Other new songs on the album : 
-          Groove is in the Heart, by the English duet Kitten & The Hip
-          Everybody’s talking, by the Canadian jazz singer and trombone player Ashley Slater
-          7 day fool, by the X Factor revelation Scarlett Quinn

The Swing Phenomenon
Si certains se demandent d’où vient le nom de la chanson, c’est tout simplement le titre d’un classique de la house par Armand Van Helden, The Funk Phenomena. Nous voulions à notre manière reprendre l’idée de ce classique de la house et y mettre notre petite touche. D’ailleurs dans le remix de Dj Mibor on entend clairement Swing Phenomena dans les parties masculines utilisées pour le remix. La chanson décrit plus ou moins notre premier contact avec le swing lors d’une soirée au Divan du Monde. Un souffle de joie et de bonne humeur! Ce fut notre première collaboration avec Nicolle Rochelle que nous avions admirée dans le rôle de Joséphine Baker dans la Comédie Musicale de Jérôme Savary à l’Opéra Comique. Dire que nous lui avions envoyé un petit message de félicitations sur son myspace à l’époque…. Le temps passe si vite !

If you’ve ever wondered where the title of this track comes from, it was a joke we  played fashioned on the Armand Van Helden epic title "The Fink Phenomena". We wanted to pay a tribute to the house culture and keep all this in a swing spirit. The song, in a way, tells of our first contact with the swing community when we attended our first swing party. We were blasted by the energy and the good mood, which just begged to be told in a track. This is also the first track of a long-lasting collaboration with Nicolle Rochelle, who we had seen performing as Josephine Baker in the Jérôme Savary musical that was a triumph on the Parisian stage.

Résidente de San Francisco où elle est un des trésors culturels, cette pianiste, accordéoniste et interprète peut tout autant reprendre les classiques de Bowie et Elton John mais également pousser la note au sein du Tribute Group de Captain Beefheart. La France l’a découverte grâce au film multi-primé (Cannes, César) de Matthieu Amalric, « Tournée » dans lequel elle tient son propre rôle de MC aux côtés de ses camarades du Cabaret New Burlesque. Cette troupe formée à l’occasion de l’inauguration du Lieu Unique à Nantes a su imposer son style unique, entre performances circadiennes, effeuillages politique et hommage à l’esprit cabaret.
Kitten On The Keys et Bart&Baker ont collaboré à plusieurs reprises et s’apprêtent à dévoiler leur dernière fantaisie musicale « Double Trouble », un mini album reprenant des chansons aux paroles délicieusement ambiguës.

About Charlie Magoo : Charlie Magoo is a multi-talented skills artist. Architect then ragga-ska performer (La Raya Magoo (Boucherie prod / Universal), he moved on in the digital image market as Director/Graphist/Musician.  Under his native name Charlie Davoine he is the creator of the 3D poetic portraits, (www.charlie-davoine.com). For the Big Band project as well as being the composer to the track, he sings the French version and directs the video .

 

About Nicolle Rochelle  
Nicole Leach (Rochelle) (b. May 10, 1979 in Montclair, New Jersey) is an American actress and singer. She attended Montclair High School. Leach attended Brown University, where she studied anthropology. Nicole has appeared in several television shows, including The Cosby Show, Shining Time Station as Harry Cupper's granddaughter/Kara's cousin Tanya, Clarissa Explains It All, Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego, Third Watch and Law & Order. She has also performed off-Broadway in such shows as Fame on 42nd Street, Miracle Brothes, and Limonade Tous le Jours with Alan Alda (2004). In 2003 she played Katherine in Shakespear’s Henry V, opposite Liev Schreiber. In 2005, she played the title role in the musical Nefertiti. Nicolle also played the new Josephine Baker in "A la recherche de josephine” in Paris in a musical from 2006 to 2010. She has been a regular contributor to Bart&Baker productions since 2011.
