Artist Info:
Bart van Rijn is one such individual. A native of The Hague, van Rijn is best known as the resident of the city’s STUG events―and a man who’s just as capable in the DJ booth as he is in the studio. Boasting a warm, soulful and always captivating sound, van Rijn’s versatility can be measured by the acts he’s played alongside. From international acts such as Radio Slave, Luke Slater and Carl Craig to local talent such as Patrice Baumel, Nuno dos Santos and Joris Voorn, van Rijn has truly chopped it up alongside some of electronic music’s foremost names. Van Rijn’s relationship with electronic music is thus a long and chequered one, and one that’s rightfully beginning to pay dividends after years of hard graft and ceaseless dedication. Heavily influenced by the likes of Laurent Garnier, Underworld, John Digweed, Radio Slave and Richie Hawtin (as well as a host of indie acts), his first big break came in 2007, when he finished as one of the 8 finalists of what has since become the biggest DJ contest in Benelux. Held in Amsterdam’s renowned Paradiso club, the TWSTd DJ Contest involves 160 promising new DJs, each of whom go head-to-head in various different categories. This would ultimately lead to van Rijn becoming resident at the aforementioned STUG, a party he would ultimately bring to a range of locations across The Netherlands, including Studio 80 in Amsterdam, Paard van Troje in The Hague and Doornroosje in Nijmegen. Aside from his work as a resident at the latter parties, Bart also programmed the events, before moving in to radio in 2009 courtesy of a live monthly slot on Amsterdam’s XT3 Radio, a position he held for over three years.  A move that only intensified his love for electronic music and also acted as a platform for a host of international acts traveling through the city, with Jerome Sydenham, Jonas Kopp and Eduardo de la Calle (as well as a host of celebrated local names) all appearing. A producer with a keen ear for a baseline, van Rijn’s inaugural releases surfaced in 2015 on Rosedale Records courtesy of the exceptional sounds of the ‘Ylpha / Deta’ EP. A fascinating insight into the mind of a man who’s dedicated much of his adult life to music, it bore all the hallmarks of an individual with decades of production experience in their back locker. In 2018, Bart embarked on arguably his biggest solo project to date: STUG Music. Never one to approach a project in half-measures, the label sprang into action courtesy of an unexpectedly eclectic cast of guests, with a mini album and 2 EPs featuring the work of Nikola Gala, Gerd, Perel, Rhadow, Kris Wadsworth, Carlos Nilmmns, Jamie Trench, Chocky, Kiwi, Chambray and a host of others. From dancefloor orientated house and techno to indie-influenced electronic music, both van Rijn and the label has already won support from Laurent Garnier, John Digweed, Sasha, Black Madonna, Jimpster, Joris Voorn, Danny Tenaglia, Radio Slave and Groove Armada. An individual who simply refuses to stand still, Bart van Rijn is a name we’re sure you’ll be hearing much more from.

Dutch producer Bart van Rijn has established himself as a versatile force in electronic music, returning recently to his label STUG with the dynamic STUG013 release. This two-track EP, featuring "GIVING" and "CRASH," epitomizes van Rijn's signature sound, moving seamlessly between genres like tech-house, deep house, and techno. "GIVING" is a lush, warm track that feels especially fitting for the colder months, while "CRASH" delivers a high-energy, peak-time groove crafted for the dancefloor. Recorded in one take, the mix showcases his knack for blending established and emerging sounds, culminating in an hour-long journey that reflects Bart’s love for dub, tech-house, and hypnotic grooves. Bart’s consistent dedication to his craft, both as a label head and artist, ensures his place as a mainstay in the electronic music scene, embodying the spirit of an industry rooted in passion and discovery.‍

Bart van Rijn - Lovebirds (Ackermann Remix) [STUG Music]


Between relentless layering and zippy, tribal beats, Bart van Rijn delivers sticky dancefloor workouts full of tension and guile that wouldn’t sound out of place on Tribal America. Indeed, his is a sound palette that leans heavily on hypnotic percussion and driving tribal rhythms, with his latest release fitting example. Entitled ‘Lovebirds’, it finds the Dutch producer in sumptuous form, with clever drumwork and shimmering synths very much the order of the day. A full-bodied workout built for discerning dancefloors, the original is nothing short of a potent, energetic battle weapon that’s sure to keep the night rolling at a devilish pace.  

On remix duties, Ackermann serves up a moody interpretation of the original. Still riding high from his acclaimed The Feeling That Brought Me Here LP, he joins a long list of expertly chosen STUG remixers, with Rhadow, Perel, Dense & Pika, Skudge, Kiwi, Gerd, Nikola Gala, and Works of Intent just a taste of the calibre that’s graced the label over the years.

Ackermann’s take on ‘Lovebirds’ leans into weighty chords, but truly flexes its muscle when the synths return to the mix. Inviting and warm, it’s a canny tool that perfectly fits that endlessly exciting section of the night between warm-up and peak time. The Netherlands has long stood as a breeding ground for groundbreaking electronic music—and The Hague’s own Bart van Rijn is one of the scene’s quietly consistent forces. Best known as the resident and curator behind the city’s revered STUG events, van Rijn has built a reputation as a selector and producer whose sound blends warmth, depth, and soul with an unerring sense for the dancefloor.

Van Rijn’s relationship with electronic music is thus a long and chequered one, and one that’s rightfully beginning to pay dividends after years of hard graft and ceaseless dedication. Heavily influenced by the likes of Laurent Garnier, Underworld, John Digweed, Radio Slave and Richie Hawtin (as well as a host of indie acts), his sound continues to evolve while staying rooted in timeless electronic foundations.

Over the years, van Rijn has shared stages with a diverse array of artists, from international heavyweights like Carl Craig, Luke Slater and Radio Slave to leading Dutch figures such as Joris Voorn, Patrice Bäumel and Bart Skils— a testament to his versatility and deeply rooted understanding of electronic music culture.
Beyond the booth, van Rijn also stepped into programming and radio. His monthly slot for three years on XT3 Radio Amsterdam became a platform for both established and emerging talent, welcoming guests like Jerome Sydenham, Jonas Kopp, and Eduardo de la Calle.

In 2018, Bart embarked on arguably his biggest solo project to date: STUG Music. Never one to approach a project in half-measures, the label sprang into action courtesy of an unexpectedly eclectic cast of guests, with a mini album and two EPs featuring the remix work of Gerd, Perel, Rhadow, Skudge, Works of Intent, Dense & Pika, Chocky & Chambray and a host of others. From dancefloor-orientated house and techno to indie-influenced electronic music, both van Rijn and the label have already won support from Laurent Garnier, John Digweed, Sasha, Black Madonna, Jimpster, Joris Voorn, Danny Tenaglia, Radio Slave and Groove Armada. 

An individual who simply refuses to stand still, Bart van Rijn is a name we’re sure you’ll be hearing much more from.
