the samples on this track are based on recordings we made from a Bethlehem* based radio station. A weekly program dedicated entirely to the horoscope forecast. Listerners call in, give their date and time of birth to find out what the stars tell them about their luck in love, health, work, finances...signs of life like anywhere else in the world, here too, people dream of happiness, marriage, a better job, etc...
(* Bethlehem is a palestinian city with a population of 40,000. It is one of the areas under full control of the palestinian authority since 1995)

 “Mulid El-Magnuon” addresses the term ‘moulid’ and its various manifestations it takes on in Egyptian folk music. Here, the word ‘moulid’ does not exclusively refer to Sufi moulids: rather also the intertwined artistic spaces that lie between the moulid in its Sufi sense and what it carries in distinctive rhythmic patterns, musical instruments, and artistic forms, and the moulid as a musical genre originating from folk weddings that enjoy special aesthetics and unique styles. Through this project, YUNIS tries to explore the spaces where those two concepts collide through producing an original musical composition which reflects his own vision and understanding of ‘moulids’ as well as the manifestations the word carries within him.

Basel Naouri is a musician, producer and designer of sound and spatial media. His music does not commit to a specific genre and ranges from deep house to experimental and ambient soundscapes with Arab influence. He is a multi-instrumentalist who fuses sounds from samples and instruments to mold immersive stories of a tactile and detailed nature.

In his other work, Basel is interested in translating natural systems and behaviours into immersive experiences through the design of multi-sensory media spaces. Basel works with diverse media on architectural, interior and sound design projects.
