Finally we are back with a new Austere release!  It's been a long time coming but we hope everyone who has supported us in the past will continue to do so and we hope that you like it!  Release date is around 11th March 2022.

This is hand stamped and limited to 200 copies, 30 of which are available from our Bandcamp site now - https://austererecordings.bandcamp.com/ with a laser engraved outer jacket done by one ourselves.  Oh, there is also pretty much the entire back catalogue available to buy there too.

Welcome to BM-18 the biokinetic realm created by Dana Kuehr, a lush audio environment where organic and synthesized matter coalesce. As we float disembodied above this verdant pixel plain, Dana offers us shifting repetitions and sequences in disguise, each track a landscape within a world created in the utmost detail, from the minute bleeps and chirps to the enveloping and bumping bouncy basslines. Flickering drums explode like dandelion seeds in a breeze, searching for a place to lay, grow, and flourish. Sounds are captured (fingers tapping, rain patter, Belgian parakeets released from a ‘70s zoo, vocal oohs and ahhs) and hybridized with patterns, samples, and musical manoeuvres (jungle breaks, west coast hip hop, layered drums, IDM crunch and twinkle, reverb, delay, ‘90s R&B, underwater video game soundscapes).

As in any imaginary sphere, there are characters who exchange and converse: rivers, coasts, clouds, lakes, echoes of dolphins, and peaceful frogs. Amidst their complex chatter, the sounds of BM-18 extend an invitation to dance, to feel our bodies alive and present, to acknowledge the impulse of movement and the pulsing heartbeats of each track. An ode to the Taoist consideration that all creatures live together in mystic unity, co-evolving and feeding each other, Dana brings together cloud ethereal with earth pounding, and like an orca’s tail upon a restless sea, it slaps!!!

All tracks written and produced by Dana Kuehr between April 2020 and November 2021 in Brussels, and mixed by Dan Piu at Checkpoint Charly Studio in Zurich between November 2021 and March 2022. Mastered and cut by Stefan Betke at Scape in Berlin. Original artworks by Camiflage and text by Ailsa Cavers. A1 was first digitally released on Ojoo Music. After a little summer break, Aquatic Gardens returns with music exploration from all types of scenes. During the holidays, we had the pleasure to meet https://soundcloud.com/armando-savatteri, a native of the Sicilian islands that guided us in the discovery of their beauty.

He is curly and warm like a Mediterranean soul, one that does not recognize the boundaries of music selection but only its magic power. Digging deep into record mines, he has brought unthinkable compositions from the 80s and 90s back to the present light. In this vinyl-only set, he gives us a demonstration of what can be found in the archives of ancient collectors of dance music and how it can be combined into a symphony of stories.

There is an unusual flavor of progressive house, electro, and disco from another dancing generation who are the protagonists of this mix, a cheerful company of synths and vocals that lighten the hearts and boost imagination. Enjoy the sound.

Electronic music producer based in Zurich, Switzerland. In 1992 he started to produce music on his self-founded labels No Acting Vibes and Moto Music. Specialized in using a variety of analogue synthesizers and pedal effects, Dan Piu’s productions were known for analogue sounds.

The mix complication is focused on some of Dan's most underground, underrated and forgotten old-school rarities.

You'll notice that some tracks are louder on one side than the other, Dan told us it's from a mini Album released in 1991 which he used and it appears that this record was stamped unbalanced.

Basic Moves welcomes Chicago-born artist Dana Kuehr onto its roster this October with Basic Moves 18, comprised of six original compositions to make up her debut release dubbed the WTRTMPL 2x12’’ EP.

Originally hailing from the south of Chicago before venturing further afield to New York, Oakland and eventually Belgium’s Brussels, Dana Kuehr has been gradually forming her own unique vision of electronic music over the years. As a DJ, Kuehr’s sets on Brussels’ Kiosk Radio traverse through everything from jungle to hip hop, IDM, ambient, House, Techno and much more. Here though, Dana marks the beginning of a new chapter with her debut release coming via the Basic Moves imprint, helmed by producer and DJ, Walrus, out of the Belgian capital. BM18, known internally as the WTRTMPL 2x12’’ project, is Dana's homage to a beautiful lake of pure, clear water. Dan Piu (Moto Music, Cartulis, Childhood Intelligence) delivered warm and punchy mixdown work from his Zurich studio for the release.

Opening the release is ‘How Do We Continue’, a hazy journey through ethereal synth pads, throbbing bass, crisp percussion, and bubbling arpeggios before ‘Almagest Slide’ shifts focus over to bumpy breaks and dreamy atmospherics alongside intricately processed samples and gritty bass stabs. ‘Cloud B’ follows next and edges back into deeper realms courtesy of woozy, haunting pad lines, robust drums, and subtly nuanced delays throughout.

‘Great Lakes Empty Branches’ then kicks off the C-Side of the double pack, embracing an electro leaning aesthetic courtesy of crunchy claps, sturdy drums, a chuggy arpeggio bass hook and dynamic, resonant leads though. ‘Realm 8’ follows, exploring some jungle and hip hop influence with heavy doses of sub bass, choppy broken rhythms, and hazy Moog like synth melodies. ‘BECAUSE’ rounds out the release next with euphoric vocals and textural atmospherics gliding above swinging percussion and mesmeric, circling synth lines to complete the package.

This is the third release on the “For Playful Manners” label presenting a split record by Gwenan Spearing from Whales, living in Berlin, who is an algorithmic coder during the day and a dj and producer by night. Gwenan loves techno and she is presenting on For Playful Manners 03 her first club music compositions (and there are plenty more to follow!). The two other tracks are from Camiflage who is based in Brussels/Belgium and is a movie animator during weekdays and a
producer, label owner (Snaretrade Records) and dj during the wee wee hours of the weekend.

SNARETRADE : ‘’Next in line in the Snaretrade series is an EP by one of our favourite people: Gols. He operates the Hoot label, has released with Ghent label/party Ojoo and has been crafting tracks low key for a long time.

We start out with dessert: In Au bain marie we’re given some elegant yet hard to follow instructions on how to make the perfect chocolate mousse. DJ and Knetterbar operator Yentl kindly lent her voice, not knowing the recording would be used as a final take.

In Hundreds and Thousands, Gols weaves thick layers of percussion and synths, forming a dense and deep structure that pulls us in. In the midst of moving his music studio, this track was the last one to be recorded before pulling the plugs and boxing the gear up. On the flipside, Regrooved is a shuffling, sneaky and amusing bit of house that never really admits if it’s just arriving at the party, or just about to leave. After-hour fare for those who like something sweet after dinner. ‘’

Steffan Todorovic is a Danish-Montenegrin selector based in Tallinn. Since 2013 he has been organizing events, with artists such as central, Funk D'Void, Peggy Gou, Dj Sports, and many more. After relocating to Estonia in 2018 Steffan launched the Gestalt Records and Hidden Assetsimprints, as well as co-founding Coymix Ltd alongside Timo Deeprhythms of Echocentric Records.
