In the far north of Colombia, all the way along the Caribbean coast, you can find one of the world's best hostels called El Rio. This magnificent place is co-run by Ben Davies who left the north of the UK a decade ago in search of sun, snakes and waterfalls.

One element that makes El Rio special is that, since its inception, underground clubbing and electronic music have been central to the project. This manifests as endless club nights, riverside sunrises (and mornings), and the groundbreaking Bonanza festival, a happening that brings together the very best of Colombian, South American and global underground electronic dance music acts, all co-curated by Ben and Adi    

Ben Davies also deejays under the name Benny. His UK roots are never far away, which is something you will hear in this brand new Basic Moves mix, recorded live on Sunday evening of this year’s edition of Bonanza. I was on the dancefloor the whole time and when, a couple of months ago, Benny told me the set was recorded, it was a no-brainer to put it out on the Basic Moves platform.

Snakes, waterfalls and a lot of techno, breaks, trance and acidic goodies … just how we like it … give it up for Benny!

For the next instalment of our Cartulis Live Mix Series, we’re thrilled to welcome Sohrab, a name synonymous with forward-thinking soundscapes and impeccable selection.

This mix was recorded in May 2024 at the @Colourfulinc party at @tagchengdu in Chengdu, China. Perched on the 21st floor of a building, TAG is a deeply underground venue.

Born in Trieste, Italy, with Iranian roots, and shaped by years spent in London’s underground scene, Sohrab embodies the fusion of diverse influences. As a DJ, his sets effortlessly weave through genres, delivering potent, futuristic, and deeply energetic performances. As a producer, his signature melodic flair has earned him recognition on labels like Kalahari Oyster Cult, Undersound, and The Comfort.

Sohrab’s journey through some of the finest parties and venues, Undersound, Art of Dark, Fold, Les Enfants, Mtkvarze, and, of course, Cartulis, has cemented his reputation as a perfectionist whose music speaks louder than words. His mix for this series captures that essence, delivering a snapshot of his dynamic artistry.

It's a true pleasure to host Karine & Shakolin this week. Resident's of legendary Ukrainian institute Closer the pairs consistently excellent output has been prolific of late, with mixes for Faciendo and Banana Box showcasing their knack for unearthing weird and wonderful gems. In DIM306, you'll hear a recording of a Ukrainian public radio broadcast from their youth before the podcast beautifully unfurls over nearly two hours.
