Arvid Wretman, AKA Your Planet Is Next, has assumed the role of musical storyteller with a serious mean streak of DIY electro.

Wretman’s latest album tells its tale through the eyes of an imagined anti-hero. He conjures up the gritty underbelly of an over-populated megalopolis; a world of dilapidation, ruin and sin, where stiletto knives are a dime a dozen and our titular protagonist, the FOG MAN, stalks the streets.

In an oddball tradition, there’s an absurdist, left-of-centre flex coursing throughout. This is the Stockholm native at his strangest, radiating fuck-off attitude and an embrace of imperfection as he maximises the potential of a limited studio setup.

Bleak spoken word lyrics only serving to bolster the narrative storytelling, ‘Sad Fog’ paints a vivid picture of hardships endured, while ‘Fog Power’ resembles the inner dialogue of a man teetering at the edge of sanity. Think corrosive, industrial fug and rugged, tape-damaged torque.

Through ‘No Fog’s menacing machine funk to the visceral, downbeat sleaze of ‘Freaks’ and queasy, Wolfenstein-sampling 'Eisenfaust’, the FOG MAN deals that dystopian gear in spades.

For the 10th and final edition of his much prized various artist series, he unearths more machine fuelled magic: offering another set of equally excellent music from stellar talent.

Starting the dance, Dutch maestro Boris Bunnik dons his Versalife mantle to opens with ‘Skirmish 101’. Setting the machines to cycle, Bunnik fires a hefty slab of bass to bring down the walls whilst pristine robot like rhythms set your body in motion, all enveloped with sparse synthesis and shimmering effects. Crashing the joint with ‘Acid Baby’ – The Acid Pimp drops a no holds barred, riotous 303 workout that’s nothing short of a tour de force in exorcising the power of Roland’s most celebrated silver box. Putting pedal to the metal with drums and reverb, a smiley face or grimace is guaranteed!

Longtime collaborators Jamie Anderson & Owain K reset the dial on the flip with ‘Basement Dub’, a house paced workout that glides at a steady pace. Evoking the spirit of Mood II Swing whilst immersed in the depths of an underwater realm. Ending on the upbeat note of Konerytmi’s ‘Aamunkoitto’, the Finnish producer reflects a breezy disposition with a joyful melody, step-to electro beat and rolling acid bassline – all perfectly balanced to keep your calm and head out in the right direction, a great way to sign off on this highly collectable series.

We are excited to welcome Roi to the EC Underground roster.

A prominent figure in Spanish electronic music, Roi is renowned for his innovative and personal approach. Co-director of the Fanzine Project, he seamlessly blends genres to deliver sets that are both introspective and engaging. Roi's connection with audiences and commitment to musical innovation establish him as a key influencer and a mentor for aspiring DJs and producers.

This solid slab of dance music offers a blend of traditional house and techno with a backbone of everything EDM. Consistency makes Another Level stand out among its peers with stable track duration, slightly glitchy beats, and evermore bubbling bass.

From the very beginning of Club 113 one is to experience timeless keyboard sound combined with a predictable (and satisfying) rhythm section, which serves as an homage to the classic club music with a slight nostalgic scent; still, progressive sound production gives away that Roi is a modern DJ.

With Maceta and Terra Mia the release dwells more into the waters of glitch dance music while remaining true to his roots. Getting a little harsher and a little darker, these two tracks become a nice continuation of the less surprising opening of the EP.

Alluvial is my personal favorite of Another Level, a highlight of the release that shows off the ability of Roi to develop moody techno elements into the canvas of sterile electronics. The abundance of melodic buzz makes this track worth classic Detroit hymns with a pinch of local Spanish flavour.

The EP closes with a more psychedelic touch of Fallujah, a great soundtrack to drop out from your active trip phase and switch to a more ambient artist – if you know what I mean.

In conclusion, Roi sets a pretty high standard among European sound producers and is surely positioned to become a prime mover for his new label colleagues.

A coronal mass ejection (CME) is an unusually large release of plasma and magnetic field from the solar corona. They often follow solar flares and are normally present during a solar prominence eruption. The plasma is released into the solar wind, and can be observed in coronagraph imagery.
Coronal mass ejections are often associated with other forms of solar activity, but a broadly accepted theoretical understanding of these relationships has not been established. CMEs most often originate from active regions on the Sun's surface, such as groupings of sunspots associated with frequent flares. Near solar maxima, the Sun produces about three CMEs every day, whereas near solar minima, there is about one CME every five days.
