While Arms and Sleepers celebrated its 15th anniversary in 2021, Mirza Ramic—one of two original co-founders and now the group’s sole member—celebrated another milestone: 25 years since he first arrived to the US as a refugee. Born in Bosnia & Herzegovina and having fled the war-torn country with his mother, Ramic immigrated to the US as a 13-year old and arrived to Tucson, Arizona in July 1996. The family would eventually make it to Boston, Massachusetts where Ramic would go on to meet the other half of Arms and Sleepers (Max Lewis), but the first two years living in the Southwestern US shaped the core of an American immigrant identity. Exactly 25 years later, in July 2021, Ramic sat down to write an album dedicated to the memories of first arriving in the US, far removed from everything he was previously familiar with and at the footsteps of a new life ahead.

'former kingdoms' is out on May 10, 2022 and available as a Gatefold LP via SlyVinyl Records + on all music streaming services via DXFXWXU Collective.

Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch returns with a brilliant new album for FatCat’s 130701 imprint. 'Ravage’ is the London-based French pianist / composer’s first standalone album since 2018’s ‘Époques’, following which she has been busy building a name for herself scoring an increasingly high-profile series of films. A powerful, deeply personal album that charts the process of grieving for a parent, Emilie describes ‘Ravage’ as “the most intimate and personal project I've created”.

Recorded largely at home in London over the lockdown winter of 2020/21, the composition process began way back towards the end 2018 with the title track, which Emilie felt compelled to write during a period of intense grief after losing her father. “It was a way for me to express and process the emotions I was going through, especially as I found it impossible to verbalise, or even tell people. It felt a rather solitary experience because we rarely talk about the loss of a parent with whom one had a fraught relationship, and those extremely layered and complex feelings toward that parent can be hard to explain.”

We can start talking about the gloriously entangled futurist nostalgia appearing on Twin Color‘s debut Extended Play No 1, and then, maybe, we can start guessing about the origin of this project and the man behind it, or I can simply come out and tell you that it’s actually Fernando Corona, whom you already should know as Murcof. Yes, it’s Murcof, folks, and he’s back, with his take on time-warping retro-forward leaning music, which is somewhat like post-[insert your favourite style of “synth wave” in here], or really, sitting in a genre of its own – reminds me of when Richard Chartier first cautiously explored his now monumental Pinkcourtesyphone project. I say this because I think [I hope] that Twin Color is here to stay! Everything on here has that delicious tint of oozing sentimentality [even the font of the cover art has a bit of that Stranger Things vibe], for those late 80s late night belated radio stations, that played music by bands such as OMD, Depeche Mode, Thompson Twins, Book of Love and Ultravox. Across the four tracks “melodic lines eddy and whorl together while moon rays of Blade Runner synthesis shine brightly across the shadows; at times it is stately in its melancholia, at others driving with the exhilarating rhythm of final boss levels.” But beneath the surface of these reflective genres, there is that unmistakable sound of Murcof, with his intelligent sound design and a plethora of tasty ear candy. The first few minutes of the track I am premiering for you today should be enough to get you drooling. Enjoy!

Lightning Dust - "Run"

'Red Valley' refers to the Welsh who left their homes between 1936 and 1939 to fight in the Spanish civil war against Franco and the rise of facism. Bennett says, "It's just my little nod to the humble people who saw themselves as global citizens and the responsibility that comes with that, and that their individual actions truly mattered".

The track, which opens with guitars and stomping feet, slips effortlessly into a gorgeous groove of dusty guitars and grumbling organs, all underpinned by Huw's simple but affecting bass work.
