This 2 hour mix is a chronological compilation of some of my favourite tracks taken from my annual Summerdaze sets. Starting off way back in 2011 (when I was DJ Catley), each ‘year’ is about 12 min long before jumping forward to the next one. It’s fun to hear the gradual change in my musical taste over a decade! 2011: Back in the day, I really just made mixes for myself. I didn’t like the long intros and outros that electronic songs had, so I wanted to make continuous mixes to listen to that only had the best parts of songs! The original idea behind Summerdaze was to pick songs that are cheerful and upbeat. They often have vocals and I liked to find remixes of popular songs that are recognizable and could be sung along with. This compilation starts off exactly how Summerdaze 2011 started. It was my first time playing around with samples. The girl talking is from a random video I found -  she was ranking her fav summer songs of 2011.

2012: This was the year I thought it’d be fun to turn Summerdaze into an annual mix. I started a system where I would collect “Summerdaze worthy” songs throughout the year, and then create the mix in the summer. 2012 was the year that moombahton exploded. I got a little ambitious and made THREE mixes this year, each with different vibes.

2013: I made two Summerdaze mixes this year. “Unicorn Island” is high energy and its name comes from a tiny island that was formed at FozzyFest that year. “Jamaican Paradise” was a more experimental mix. Starting with ghetto funk and moombahton, it transitions into a lot of jungle. I threw in some chilled reggae, and even liquid drum and bass for good measure. 

2014: This year I decided to drop Summerdaze back down to only 1 mix, so I tried to blend all the different genres together: house, moombahton, ghetto funk, and jungle. It was fun sampling the movie Frozen. You can hear one of the samples in this compilation!

2015: This has always been one of my fav Summerdaze’s. It’s got a classic sample from Archer (“This is gonna be amazing!”), which I had to throw into this compilation. I started putting in more edits and mashups I made, it’s got SQUATS, and some really fun trap remixes.

2016: This was one of my less favourite years, although it’s got a wicked mashup I made (“Shine Low”), which you’ll hear on this compilation.

2017: This definitely made up for the previous year. I had a lot of fun throwing in lots of samples from Rick & Morty, and there’s so much fun bouncy house tunes. I added laidback tracks to give more variety and make the whole mix a bit more of a journey. And Thug Shells made the album art?!

2018: Another awesome year. I loved discovering Thornato and putting in awesome tracks that blend in incredible Caribbean vibes. You’ll hear a couple of his tracks in this compilation. I also put in some reggaeton to add to the tropical vibes.

2019: What a year! My biggest Summerdaze ever with 30k listens. I had so much fun making this one. A hilarious intro about banana bread, and tons of great samples from The Office thrown in all over the place. For something new, I put a handful of funky disco house tracks near the beginning.

2020: A few highlights of the year were my Snake Jazz edit, “Wet Carmen Sandiego” (one of my fav mashups I’ve made), and the introduction to Sunglass Motif with our track “Don’t F**k With Me” (shoutout to Pilly Newtron)! Summerdaze 2020 is one of my fav mixes – it’s got such a great variety of tunes. I tried something new by playing only tech house remixes at the end.

The 'Ten Years of Summerdaze' compilation was a blast, but 2021 wouldn't be complete without a fresh NEW mix! Covid be damned, it's time to put on some water wings, celebrate spring break, and jump in the pool with your favourite seltzer (8% seltzy, I highly recommend - 4, and you're off the floor). Let's chill and have a good time - it's Bass Panda's 11th annual Summerdaze!

Basically, I was thinking to myself, how does one incorporate the sounds of the ocean and the sea within one beautifully orchestrated piece of music? So then I put together quite the masterpiece, using the sounds of the ocean, utilizing noises from live seals, dolphins, echolocation, to make a beautiful piece of music to be played at church, in the workplace - anywhere you want.
