They spoke of he who blocked the crushing sea of extinction in the depths of each night, shielding the fragility of life with the perfection of his brutal and efficient form. The eyes of the living only greeted each new day because of the immortal techniques that had now been passed to them, the new guardians of the beacon, masters of an art now evolved – watching, waiting, perfecting their deadly art… ready for the return of those beyond death.

Following up the immensely successful Karate LP from core Eatbrain artist L 33, comes a deadly second approach to some of the most blinding tracks from the album - reimagined by a collection of apex predators in drum & bass. ‘17 years of Mainframe Recordings’ album. The LP features an eye watering 18 tracks, all of which provide a snapshot into how the imprint has evolved over the course of its expansion. Including newcomer artists who Mainframe are currently investing in, as well as those who Mainframe have had play at their raucous club nights, there’s a host of tastes catered for. And with a name like Disaszt at the helm, the album, the label and its events have been in good hands. 
Tracks like Ripple’s ‘Stranger’, Wingz ‘Definite’, and Halflow’s ‘Progressive ID’ set the mood, showing the talent which Mainframe have at their fingertips when it comes to the fresher waters of drum & bass. The Test of Power & Strength had pitted the raw might the adventurer against impossible odds, and yet through their incredible prowess they had survived to proceed to the next trial. As they stepped into the first true room of the temple complex, leaving its massive courtyard behind them, the adventurer was perplexed to find but a single set of doors before them as the voice of the temple’s mysterious inhabitant boomed forth from its walls once more. 

“In the first trial, you were tested upon strength of body alone, but herein such brutish brawn alone will not see you succeed. Beyond this door lays the third and final trial & the knowledge you seek, but you must first prove that your spirit is pure and that your soul is clean of any ulterior motives should you ever hope to leave. This is the second trial of the temple. This is the TEST OF SPIRIT & SOUL.”

The voice departed as quickly as it had arrived, and the adventurer moved to step through the door. Flinging open the great door they found themselves alone, suspended above a great void by an animalistic spirit that seemed to emerge from their own bodies. The adventurer hung precariously from this great creature, and as the beast began to move their connection was tenuously held by only the smallest movements of the adventurer’s body. Battered by wind and wave of doubt and dread at what might lay before them, the adventurer journeyed through the spirit realm on virtue of thought alone,before finding themself deposited beyond the threshold of the very door that they had stood before both so recently and yet so long ago. They were approaching the knowledge that they had for so long sought, but before them lay the third and final trial, which promised to push their limits further than any that had come before.

GYDRA return to EATBRAIN to debut the followup to their most recent EATBRAIN single Lava Run - “The Test of Power & Strength”, with a continuation of the thematic series in the form of HANGJAW – "THE TEST OF SPIRIT AND SOUL". This newest single from the Russian neurofunk legends brings their draconic fury to the EATBRAIN horde, imbuing their ranks with the spirit of the legendary creatures from which they draw their name.

Bound by immortal ties and borne of a time long since passed, a pair of twin souls have manifested themselves in recurring reincarnations across the history of this world. Inexorably linked, these two souls go about each of their myriad lives as they will, ignorant of the strands of fate so tightly wound between their disparate forms. Across all climes of our world they have walked, and in their many incarnations they have been both peasants and gods alike, for such is the fate of such spirits who are always destined to be. For all of their many forms, each and every time comes a subtle tug at their self woven webs, one that fills them with a yearning for something unfamiliar yet known. Thus it is that no matter the distance between them, each shall come to meet the other in some due time, for thus it is that their souls are intertwined. Whether meeting as equals of the material world, or as bearers of titles both lowly and high, this meeting brings a sole realization to their twin bonded minds.

From here are born their legends, heroic and tragic, of this strange pair of souls that has been flung across time. For their fate is unique and apart from any other, and so it is that these two may stand both as enemies or brothers. For every tale of these twins in which they fell some great beast, there is an equal where one does fall at the others feat. They are inseparable allies & horrible foes, cursed with this fate by a power unknown. They were, they are, and they will be again, and perhaps at this moment they call each other “friend.” Yet in their next life that same term may invoke bile, anger for the twin each so utterly reviles. Thus it is that their story may be told with one single word, that modern term FRENEMIES which is so often heard.

TOBAX summons the kindred spirits of the EATBRAIN horde with his FRENEMIES EP, which follows his 2019 EP “Seized Moment” EP and an appearance on the “Divergence II” compilation as the next part of a long collaborative history between himself and EATBRAIN. From the titular collaboration with MC KRYPTOMEDIC to the uniquely melodic 12 INCHES, FRENEMIES features four full frontal & furious Drum & Bass tracks in the style for which TOBAX is so well known.
