Bass Agenda 79: Interview with UMWELT & Guest mix from The Bandit

This mix is dedicated to legendary producer and filth merchant, Blackmass Plastics, who passed away on 27 June 2025. The mix was recorded at the beginning of June 2025, when I first received the test pressings of my Cyborg Samba ep. In the mix, I had included five tracks and a remix from this truly gifted artist. Alavux is a highly respected electro-techno artist from Serbia, known for his fast-paced, tenacious sounds and his dedication to representing the underground music scene in Eastern Europe. For over two decades, Alavux has been a driving force in the industry, leading his E75 crew with passion and commitment.

In 2015, Alavux released the highly acclaimed "Octagon EP" on Bass Agenda Recordings, which received support from industry heavyweights such as Dave Clarke. 

Alavux's journey into music production began in the mid-'90s, where he found inspiration in acid, techno, and house music. 

With a keen sense of staying ahead of the curve, Alavux has created his own path in the industry. He draws inspiration from the great pioneers of the past but chooses to adopt their pioneering spirit and innovation rather than mimic their sound or track structures.

Emerging from Amsterdam's vibrant DIY scene, Extase Urbaine has made a name for
himself with his genre-crossing sets and forward-thinking productions. Known for
blending techno, electro, and trance, Extase calls his style 'body music for all bodies'.
Co-founder of the influential HDE collective, he is committed to diversifying the
underground clubbing scene. His debut EP "Sacred Winds" on NYC-based label Samo

EPM.190 comes from Science Cult boss, Syrte.  Syrte is Italian born Stefan Weise, currently residing in Colorado, US. As Syrte, Stefan has performed live and as a DJ all over the US and Europe. He is currently co- owner & co-founder of Electro and IDM label Science Cult and the host of Blue Industries on Proton Radio, which just celebrated 20 years. His DJ sets, as captured in this mix for EPM that twists DJ Stingray 313 into Blawan and Galaxian into Lord Jalapeños are high energy, 150bpm+, IDM laden affairs that have left many a listener in a daze afterwards. 

Growing up in Italy and Germany, Stefan was exposed to electronic and dance music from an early age. His father, a former Discoteque DJ, maintained a healthy collection of Italo Disco records, while his mother, always on the hunt for new music, introduced him to many of the early electronic pioneers. In 1989, during a brief stint residing in the UK, Stefan was introduced to Acid House. He was only 13 at the time. 

Over the years, his passion for futuristic music evolved and after migrating to the US, Stefan began DJing at age 17 in Dallas, TX. This eventually led to him producing his own music a few years later using a severely underpowered Macin-tosh computer and a copy of Rebirth RB-338 that his friends bought him as a birthday gift. His influences have always been Autechre, Aphex Twin and the sound of Tom Middleton & Mark Prichard aka The Jedi Knights. 

Stefan wanted to explore as many musical avenues as possible and first gained attention as Progressive Breaks artist "Stefan Anion" with his bootleg remix of Gary Jules' cover of "Mad World". Having appeared on labels such as Gem Records, King Street Sounds and Credo, he became known for his unique and futuristic dub techno sound. Stefan eventually turned to Electro and IDM under his new alias Syrte which can best be described as IDM meets Electro.

Stefan's ethos for Syrte is sound experimentation over conformity, no matter the end result.

Early influenced by Belgian and UK Old School Rave sound, Chris Nexus 6 has been gravitating around the electronic scene since 1995. Co-founder of a weekly electronic show on a local radio station in the suburbs of Paris for more than 10 years, Chris gradually abandoned the Acid/Transcore style of his beginnings in favor of a cold and hard-hitting Electro that he still mixes with passion today.

In parallel with his activities, Chris turned to writing musical chronicles for Atome.com (FR), Electro Alliance (US), or Electric Kingdom (US) blogs.
Over the years, Chris has managed to build a solid network of artists and label owners worldwide. 

As a writer, his regular efforts to introduce electro to the mass have leaded him to be part of the mighty New Flesh Records along with Umwelt where he currently runs the graphic side of the French imprint. 

Nowadays, he regularly signs artworks and illustrates record covers for some of his favorite labels: New Flesh Records, Rave Or Die, Zodiak Commune, Shipwrec, or Fundamental Bass Intelligence.

“Dave Clarke presents A White Noise Retrospective” is
available on Friday July 31st, the day Clarke broadcasts
his 500th episode.

The compilation is Dave’s personal curation of music and artists he exposes every single week on radio. All proceeds of the 11 track compilation go to “No Guts No Glory”, a Dutch foundation that provides cancer patients with funds for treatment not covered by health insurance.

“The Public Stand approached me to do this compilation as
the label releases a lot of music that featured on my show,
they wanted to give an homage to White Noise and who
could turn down something so lovely? To cover all angles of
White Noise I suggested to have Bass Agenda Recordings to
provide the electro tracks that have been featured on White
Noise past years. The two labels kindly agreed and it was
very easy to choose the right tracks. Alex Slagter who does all
my design work suggested the charity and we all
wholeheartedly agreed.” Clarke explains.

The compilation consists of 11 tracks curated by The Baron of which the techno tracks are provided by The Public Stand and the electro tracks are provided by Bass Agenda Recordings, plus bonus tracks by Datrus and White Noise favorite Mazzula.

“Looking back it’s very rewarding to see White Noise caused
an ecosystem of labels and artists collaborating. Many
artists found a home and of course I spotted Mr. Jones who
got me back in the studio again after sending me new
material every week. I can do this easily for another 500
shows.”

July 31st and only costs 5 Euros (500 euro cents), all
proceeds go to the No Guts No Glory Foundation.
