“Known to his friends as Xuki, Atmotic has been a DJ and record collector since 1998. The first cassettes he bought as a kid, by artists such as Vangelis, Jarre, and Enigma, shaped his musical taste to this day, with ambient electronica still remaining one of his favorite styles. However, he is quite versatile and owns an extensive vinyl collection of over 3,000 releases covering a wide range of musical genres.

The first labels he became obsessed with were Rephlex, Warp, and GPR, featuring artists such as μ-Ziq (Mike Paradinas), AFX, The 7th Plain, and B12, among many others. In his view, the essence of electronic music hasn’t changed that much, you can still clearly identify the influence in the work of new artists. What has changed is the accessibility and the tools available to produce music, resulting in bigger number of artists to discover, though not always with the same level of quality. 

Moreover, he believes that mainstream artists from 20, 30, or even 40 years ago were often far better than many of today’s, where social media and marketing are often more important than the music itself;  this is particularly applicable to some of today’s DJs”.

Mecanizados Colomer is a Spanish electronic music project rooted in the aesthetic and philosophy of industrial precision and artisanal sound manufacture. Operating from a conceptual "sonic factory," the project combines hardware synthesizers, modular systems, and real-time production techniques to craft authentic electro tracks that resist digital homogenization.​​

With releases on Microm Records, Aspecto Humano, GSVC or his recent work for Oraculo Records, Mecanizados Colomer embraces mechanical imperfection, live parameter adjustments, and analog recording as core values—a methodology. The sound draws from Detroit techno traditions, cold wave minimalism, and underground tape culture, positioning the music as both a historical homage and a forward-thinking statement on creative authenticity.

Influences Beyond the Mainstream.

This mix is a departure from the standard DJ format, focusing not on the newest club tracks but on the influential currents that shaped today's electronic music landscape. Each selection traces a thread back to the origins and underground movements whose experimental approaches continue to resonate through contemporary production and performance.

The playlist features artists from synth and cold wave backgrounds—Amiina's atmospheric layers, Ausgang Verboten's haunting minimalism, and Section 25's proto-techno rhythms—whose creative explorations echoed across decades, inspiring the sound palettes and sequencing techniques found in current work. Including tracks from rare compilations and independent labels, these selections highlight how grassroots movements, tape exchange cultures, and niche publications provided a platform for creative exchange long before mainstream recognition.

Opting for a set like this on the podcast is intentional: it's an opportunity to showcase the deeper influences behind the sound, giving listeners a chance to connect the dots between past innovation and the present. This format offers a channel to spread overlooked sounds, fostering appreciation for the breadth of electronic music's evolution and the diverse origins of contemporary movements.

Strange But Dance Music #221: Mecanizados Colomer

Prolific artist Michael Robinson from Sheffield, most known for his work as iNFO under which name he debuted on Bass Agenda Recordings in 2020, is back with his pure Electro project Intergalactic Mechanic.

His undeniable knack for listening to a wide range of influences and extracting the fundamental essence and purist of elements and blending them with his own vision is on display in full effect in these six tracks. 

Whether it's visions of deep space, the deep ocean, an ethereal realm or deep thought on interfacing with technology; this EP paints pictures of each with mastery. Enjoy!
