Counter Culture is back with two blisteringly hot tracks demonstrating why he’s one of our favourite producers right now. 

‘Lift Me Up’ starts building the drama from the get go before an infectious vocal refrain teases into an earth cracking drop. Militant stepping drums, sinister synth lines and serious sub lows drive this track forward until the synth pulls out leaving space for some gorgeous techno atmospherics. Chunky!

On ‘BOSCO’ we’re treated to more trademark dub vibes but this time at a slower tempo. Counter Culture draws on his love of garage for this unexpected yet irresistible flex. Oh gosh, watch the ride!

2023 has been one of Speaker Louis’ most prolific years to date. Month after month we’ve been bombarded with dispatches on labels ranging from Hyperactivity to Program, Deep In The Jungle to Jungle Cakes, Dub Shotta to Liondub International.

More music is set to follow before the year is out, too. Releases from the Frenchman-in-London on the likes of Four Corners and Fokuz are imminent and plenty more is planned moving into the new year.

To mark this moment, and reflect on his journey so far, we asked Speaker Louis (who’s real name in French does actually translate to Louis Speaker) for a mix and jumped on a call for an interview to find out more about where he’s at, how he got here and where he's heading.

Treex has been a mainstay on the Soul Deep imprint over the years, as he continues to push his signature sound and gain more exposure with each release.  The French native represents his country in impressive fashion with his big breaks, bouncy basslines, and catchy musical elements, that create a musical listening experience that only Treex can provide.  The EP kicks off with the energetic and ethereal vibes of the title track, “Dr. Dream.”  The track rides along a filtering pad, which is backed by lush piano keys, soulful vocals, snappy drums, and a throbbing sub bassline.  Vibes!  “Far Away Place,” is up next and features a vintage-sounding soul sample, backed by a groovy bassline and shuffling drums.  “Small Town Boy,” represents a signature Treex track, loaded up with steady shuffling drums, epic musical stabs, and a bouncy bassline.  “Start All Over Again,” rounds things out in style with its lush soul samples, large pad hits, and a deep bassline that tickles the soul. Started here on SC way back in 2008, Known for uploading hour-long mixes to Mixcloud, HearThisAt, PromoDj, and other online dance music platform. Came back to SC in 2020, to create new mixes and an archive of old ones...   

Seems a million days since raving from 1992 in the early dayz..
