Mostly for supporters of the Toon(NEWCASTLE UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB that is!)  and lovers of good music everywhere! (ho ho..gawd wot a scream!). Nicked some of Geordie Ridleys lyrics (only most of em!) from 'The Blaydon Races'.  Have now put 'Balmbras' in the lyric when for many years it was my mistake to have put 'Blaydon' in there.  Soooooo....WHAY YER WAITING FOR?? Lets rock!

I wrote this piece in the mindset of a person of power... an heroic superhero. Think of Captain America, Thor, Wonder Woman...a soundtrack that could accompany a battle scene in the movie.

Tony on vocals (but sharing them on this one with Roy), John on drums, Paddy lead guitar & no vox from him on this track & Roy struggling with the bass. Song came about from Roy working on a Paddy idea. Paddy said 'can't do anything with this' & so let Roy develop it. Great lead g. from Pad. No frills pub rock band performance. John Darmody (in the enclosed pic, from a few yrs ago, working on vid for 'Avalon our song'), his excellent drumming on this live performance. Rework of roys song written in 1977 and played in Avalon sets at the Bay Hotel, Cullercoats in the bands summer season in that year.

Perhaps if you like anything you hear on one of Roys sites put in an appropriate comment such as 'Roy couldn't hit a barn door with his piano keyboard, even if he could lift it to throw the dashed thing!'

Bass player in Paddy McAloon of Prefab Sprouts first real band 'AVALON' (er.... that is his first band to have a drummer AND a P.A.) although when he joined we were called 'CAUGHT IN THE ACT' so its not really true that 'AVALON' was his first anything!! Gawd! Aint life complicated? This name change occured after a handful of gigs. 'CAUGHT IN THE ACT' were Tony Coyle, John the drummer, Leo McCabe, Paddy, and me. All made contributions of a greater/lesser extent to songwriting. 10 months together and then Tony, Paddy and Leo were all gone and new talents came in. Pete Archbold and Paul Dean made us a twin lead guitar band for a time and Steve Daggett replaced PMc as lead singer, songwriter. He played a mean flying 'V' guitar. This Avalon Mk 2 lasted a year. Then I went back to collecting stamps and saving empty milk cartons. (anyone got a spare 1856 British Guiana One-Cent Magenta I could have? ps if u want to collect milk cartons make sure u wash em thoroughly before cluttering the place up with em)
