Q. How would you describe yourself?
A. Curious, shy, anxious, and a big music nerd

Q. How long have you been a part of the Berlin music scene?
A. I guess a little over two years now, technically. It's been slow going because of the pandemic, but I've met some great people and hope to do more this year. I DJ'd a chillout room on a boat the other weekend, which was fun and something I can now check off my bucket list!

Q. Tell us a little bit about this mix.
A. This mix is both a sequel to the Sampler's Delight mix I put together for C-, and a companion piece to my latest album, Mana. SD was all about the practice of vinyl sampling. With this mix, I wanted to connect the dots between NYC's illbient scene and the wider landscape of abstract sampling, surveying the past ~30 years. Given the context, I went for a trippy/blunted vibe that I hope came through.

"A travel between the best tracker producers that made me re-think my way to seeing and writing music. From AFX Druqks to the DIY genius Bogdan Raczynski passing through who today still uses them: Rolando Simmons alias Trackermatte, Goto80, Sully and many more.

Every track you hear in my mix was done between 1990 - 2022 in this software: Octamed, ProTracker, Jeskola Buzz, Renoise. Oliver Jones aka Skream one day said that Dubstep was 140 bpm because that was the original load up tempo on Fruity Loops 3. A lot of the music I write and listen to has many aspects that I think would be possible to create only on the magical vertical sequencer of a tracker!

The mix was recorded on Ableton in my bedroom here in Rome. When I make a mix I tend to mix genres and bpm, I don't follow a typical growing playlist I mix tracks like I'm selecting sound for a new song." - Pearl River Sound

Australian producer Ben Sun joins Phonica’s main label with a solid four track EP of House music in its various forms, from slick Disco loopers to deep ambient tribal rhythms. The now London-based Ben Davidson has a string of well-received records under his belt, under the aliases Benjamin Sun, Earth Patterns and now as Ben Sun. His regular outings on Delusions of Grandeur and Voyeurhythm are particularly of note, as well as recent excursions on Utopia and Razor N Tape. Phonica Records are delighted to have him as part of the family!

The 12” starts with ‘Trip’, a gradually building filtered Disco teaser, with the classy deep House ‘Mellow Madness’ following up. On the flip is the sumptuous Balearic roller ‘Glow’, before the record’s euphoric floor-filler ‘Siren’ rounds out the record in style. We have a feeling this earworm will be lingering in records bags and on USB sticks for some time.

Returning for the seventh edition of the beloved WE ARE NOT ALONE compilation series, Ellen Allien and BPitch Berlin curate an unmissable collection of twelve new tracks celebrating the global underground that has influenced the label since its inception. 
Due out in May, it is to be followed by two further installments landing later this year.

With the announcement of this ambitious new compilation, BPitch continue to expand on their limitless roster, providing a reflection of the artists who have been involved in the WE ARE NOT ALONE event series from across the world. 
These events put a kaleidoscopic lens to electronic music from all over, championing a vision of culture that is far-reaching and inclusive in both spirit and sound. 
With contributions from rising talents and established heroes alike, WE ARE NOT ALONE Vol. 7 is a testament to the pluralism of one of electronic music’s most beloved record labels, and the family of artists that make it what it is.

Opening the proceedings is label founder Ellen Allien with ‘Kyiv’ - a brand new cut that weaves a vast pool of sonic references for the power hour. 
There are touches of acid, dub, breaks, and trance, but genre titles become futile when it’s ultimately a sound completely her own. 
Next up is a slice of the Stockholm underground with Andree Bohlin and Billie Jo teaming up for a high speed journey through big beats and hammerdrill piano licks. 
Warsaw- born producer Sept then provides some maximal trance for the weirder hours.

DJ Physical applies a romantic vision of techno, drenched in melancholy and geared towards the senses on the seductive ‘Scary Night’. 
WTCHCRFT brings us into murkier analogue territory with ‘Unusual Photograph’, a fusion of chopped vocals and hard-edged percussive loops from the New York underground fixture. 
Slowing things down a touch, the legendary Rhys Fulber of Front Line Assembly offers up a chugging, cyclical dose of arpeggiated industrialism.

Naix - also known as revered Scottish electro maestro Galaxian - takes a chainsaw to the production booth on the searing ‘Current-Gen’. 
Berlin’s own Lucinee lifts things up to the skies with a glistening cut of trance radiation, before REÄKTTOR, hailing from Colombia, presents a darkened dose of cybergoth realness on the weighty ‘Il Oscuro’.

Ayako Mori and Raul Alvarez plunge straight back into a cavernous warehouse with ‘Departure To (360 mix)’, Lady Maru - a Berlin resident with a background as a guitarist, noise musician and more - puts together a no-nonsense barrage of hard techno on ‘Don’t Cross The Line’. 
Rounding off the compilation is Under Black Helmet’s ‘Stargazer’, a levitational voyage into a different dimension.

Just as the WE ARE NOT ALONE event series connects the dots between a sprawling and passionate network of countercultural misfits, their compilation series offers a snapshot into the true underground of electronic music today.

Night has fallen, the threat of extinction riding on the edge of its transition. Decaying and contorted faces of the undead leer from the shadows, twisted limbs reaching from the darkness towards the eternal signal - driven to crush its subversive broadcast and extinguish the final beacon. A single being stands in their way - the strongest of his kind, the last of a genetic line extending into a derelict past with an imperative to preserve the future. An arsenal of sonic weaponry residing within the lines of his palms, drawn forth through the ancient forms manifested by long-dead masters. His swift movement amongst the shuffling army is efficient - acute strikes snap limbs, raw concentrated power crushes bone, low-frequency techniques leaving little behind from the weight of brutal molecular disruption. Simulatrix aka Bassdroid is a Budapest based techno/experiemntal electronica producer who started as a dj during the late 1990's, early 2000's at the now legendary Tilos Radio. This cult former pirate radio station of Budapest served as an avantgarde lighthouse on the turbulent seas of the shaping Hungarian underground electronic music scene. As a dj his main aural influences come from Detroit techno, olsdskool electro, chicago-house, hip-hop and acid. The aforementioned ganeras are more or less represented in his sets no matter if he goes 4/4 or breaks the beats or gets down to funk and hip-hop. Between 2000 and 2004 he played at numerous underground gigs across Hungary mostly known as a nu'skool and prog breaks dj. Following the year 2004 his attention turned for some two years to electroclash and synth driven new electro and formed the dex'n'efx duo Gigolos Of Budapest to spread the decadent punk-hearthed electroclash noises.2006 slowly brougt another shif in his musical world and got him into the Berline-minimal sound and experimental electronica with glitchy noises and strange soundscapes. 
As a producer he is creating his own "peaces of noise" since 2004 experimenting with almost any style or genera of music. Momentarily he produces experimental electronica and technoish, dubby tracks. He studied and graduated in 2012 at the Ableton certified "ImPro - Budapest School of Music Technology". Such "electronic music giants" were his teachers and served as inspiration and influence as Fine Cut Bodies, Modul aka Mango, Iamyank and glitch-hop international heavyweight AMB. Constantly expanding his musical worlds he strives to convey his inner self in a form of unexpected "never before heard" sound-sculptures.
