Swedish DJ and label head Philippa Pacho began her career in the illegal party scene of Stockholm. As a resident of Under Bron since 2012, she has gone on to become one of the most in-demand DJs, renowned for her legendary marathon sets, razor sharp mixing, and powerful, radiant approach to techno.

About the mix Philippa said: 

“I tried to keep a ’festival in nature’ - theme whilst recording this, less peak moments and more groovy, hypnotic and repetitive/trippy, more leaning to what I would play at a closing set.”

This next one comes by way of Olivia Mendez, a gifted DJ and insatiable vinyl lover, vinyl digger, whose groovy and mesmerising, techno emanates libertine energy from every pore. Growing up in France and influenced by Senegalese rhythms, early Detroit and the UK underground (where she cut her teeth for five long years). Her sound bridges cultures and genres, united by a shared affinity for beats, rhythm and the pursuit of a trance-like state. Her work strives to highlight a sonic kinship and broadcast a rendition of it seen through her own personal lens, that is, of someone whose own path has taken her from France and the UK to Germany, where she now lives and runs a tight ship, and frequently plays the usual list of big league venues. From her Berlin base, she’s founded DIG (Dust In Grooves), and co-created its sub-label DIG Curated alongside Chami, born out of a shared passion for uncovering the work of little known artists and preserving their sounds in circular form. She is also the founder of the FLINTA collective KONVENT, dedicated to establishing feminist cultural spaces through in situ music pieces and art interventions. Blending creativity, community, and a celebratory spirit, KONVENT provides enriching experiences while actively challenging patriarchal oppression. Politics, togetherness and music are the lifeblood of Mendez’s work, and her looping and groove-leaning sound the conduit through which her ethic manifests. Bassiani Podcast 239 marks the latest chapter, presenting this mission in its purest form: a two-hour journey weaving current aesthetics with nostalgic imprints. The progressive mix transitions from minimalistic rhythms to hypnotic, spacey, mental and groovy elements, punctuated by dreamy, suspended moments. This carefully paced journey is a condensed version of the type of progression she likes to explore in longer sets.

Like traversing a dynamic hall of mirrors and prisms, distorting our cognitive scope to hypnotic effect, Robert’s mix is a maze of fast swiveling grooves and bubbling, modular-like reflections. Ahead of this weekend’s Bassiani booking, Berghain resident Fadi Mohem delivers a masterful blend of large scale rhythms for Bassiani Podcast 247. Raised in the leafy suburb of Spandau, the native Berliner always had the very best of nightlife within easy reach: exposure to drum ‘n’ bass, Detroit, the dubby incarnations of Basic Channel and IDM meting out references for a personal distillation of sound that saw him go from techno acolyte and sound engineering student to folk mainstay in just a few years. A stint at cult vinyl purveyor Hard Wax and the tutelage and encouragement of Ben Klock (they met in 2016) have permeated his work even further. From his alma mater to Dekmantel and beyond, his is a lexicon comprised of rhythmic loops and heavily stylised snarls that ripple, echo and penetrate the body; a catalyst for mental and physical experience that’s forward-looking and deeply intuitive. This latest one’s a 92 minute compilation of Mohem’s favourite sounds, an avatar for his high-concept sonic palette, assembly line beats from this nonpareil Berlin selector.

For his next Token EP, Kr!z delivers squelchy synth sequences over robust kicks, reinforcing his no - nonsense approach to club music. Classic in its conception yet psychotic in effect, Ipso Facto is a record built for powerful sound systems during the night’s most delirious moments.

First impressions are important; the Belgian producer has never been one to waste time, and this record is no exception. What you hear is what you get — an anxiously slithering synth line makes his intentions clear in De feat the Purpose, driving people to the dancefloor. Dry drum machine work thunders throughout, locking in the Token style with precision. Moving into the next track, ‘Chrome Dust’ focuses more on the tonal side of things and its irresistible groove makes i t an instant ear catcher. Playful rides and snares shape the progression, with Kr!z swapping percussion elements to keep the movement lively. 

The title track is a true hip swinger on the B1 as he reaches in the low end of the synth sequence to establish a very compelling rhythm. Everything in its right place, and not a hair more, the percussion transitions are reminiscent of his 4 channel DJ sets, the energy always being on the move. Equilibrium closes the EP with high energy, opening up filters over a reli ably bouncy rhythm. Years of experience behind the decks can be very instructive for a perceptive producer, and Kr!z proves us just that in this track and in the whole EP.

BASEMENT introduces BASEMENT Archives, a new podcast series highlighting standout sets recorded live in the club. 

First up is the impromptu b2b2b2b from Fadi Mohem, Kancheli, NDRX and Philippa Pacho that closed out last April’s Bassiani takeover. If you were there, you know how special this night was. Ten minutes before we planned to wrap the night, it was decided that the music simply could not stop. The four artists took over the booth in BASEMENT, and what resulted was 3 hours of euphoric techno that sent everyone out on an incredible high. These are moments that can’t be planned, curated or recreated. When they happen, you pray the recorder is on and running. Thank god it was.
