The initial spark of creativity resides deep within us like a seed, waiting for water and warmth before germinating into a floral wonder. Our next guest is a rather fine gardener in this sense, having cut his teeth for 10 years in the Berlin underground before flourishing into the internationally renowned artist he is today. At this point, Rødhåd is an artist who hardly needs an introduction. Launching his party series-turned-label Dystopian in 2009, he undoubtedly helped facilitate the musical landscape of modern-day Berlin with his uncompromising vision of techno. Known for his infectious smile and ginger personality, he has won many hearts and minds with his selections and productions ever since his humble beginnings. 

With his new label, WSNWG, he has entered a new chapter of collaborative synergy and fluid audio-visual exploration, releasing his first full-length ambient album MOOD as well as tracks with Ø [PHASE], Lady Starlight, and Antigone among others. It is in this spirit that we have asked him for a contribution to Unrush, and his mix does not disappoint. Clocking in at just over an hour, it takes us through sweeping valleys of sound, whispers of content, and everything in between. Hailing from Detroit, he remains inspired by the deep electro and techno history of the city and uses that to fuel his work. We all have our own definitions of what Electro means to us as individuals and this series hopes to share those perspectives with the listeners of Dark Science Electro - Over the last ten years, I have hosted tons of guest mixes featuring DJs from every corner of the globe who I’ve asked to give me their interpretation of ‘@DarkScienceElectro’ for their guest mix. For the second installment of ‘Define:Electro’ we have London-based Irish DJ, Gavin Mac Donagh, AKA @Gamadon, who has been DJing for over 20 years and been an avid Electro fan since the 90s. Gamadon started playing Electro out in Vancouver, Canada in 1999 with the Pound Recordings crew under the alias Dex of Hazzard. He has also promoted and DJ’d at several underground electronic music nights in Ireland and Bermuda. He has supported International acts such as The Prodigy, 808 State and Sunil Sharpe and is currently a resident DJ with Irish collective, Basement Project. Gamadon hosts a monthly live 2-hour video broadcast on @TimelineMusic2, beginning in the end of January 2020. The show is called Warehouse Manifesto, the same name as the label run by Gamadon.

Dutch techno hero Dimi Angélis is presenting an incredible 3 hours of 100% Jeff Mills vinyl on a 2 decks set-up. Hypnotic to blistering, sci-fi to gritty, all sides of Jeff are being on this newest contribution to the series. A must listen for sure, and it includes a tracklist (scroll down!) too.

Dimi: “The mix is recorded during the last ANGLS Locked stream I’ve been doing at my studio every two weeks since we were in lockdown. Most of the time I pick a theme for the show, and after doing one on Regis, Surgeon, The Advent and Luke Slater, it was about time to do a Jeff Mills special.

This got a bit out of hand time-wise though and ended up being 4.5 (!) hours. Mills is so diverse, but in general it’s always deep. After all, this mix is kind of a club night trip. I start the mix like I would do in a club, but only added a bit more ambient and soundscape-stuff to the beginning.I found the original length being a bit too long for a podcast though, so I decided to take that first part - including the more atmosphere-y beginning - off. It’s almost 3 hours full of Mills stuff now, and overall I hope it shows his diversity and what he stands for. Almost everything he has been doing sound-wise comes along within the mix.”
