NDRX and Bassiani go hand in hand. As a teenager he took to DJing to passing traffic on his hometown’s streets with some friends and some signs saying ‘We need clubs in Georgia’. This motto serving as something of a north star, it’s safe to say his dream has been fulfilled. These days, the self-styled music activist runs his very own DJ school and creative community (11th) with the goal of paying favours forward. Far be it from him to rest easy in retirement though, he’s active as ever: number 123 is a live recording of his recent set on Bassiani home turf. Distorted submarine bleeps, nimble basslines, expert layering, cranium-splintering techno, it’s all there, and this Tbilisi veteran is just getting started.

Next up in the Fast Forward Audio Series, we present: NEBBIERI

NEBBIERI is a stage name of a charismatic DJ, Marita Nebieridze, whose sets are based on the synthesis of techno, electro, and breakbeat. Her music vision was inspired at an early age by artists such as Kate Bush, The Prodigy, Psychic TV, Wendy Carlos, Kraftwerk, Brian Eno, and many more. The inspiration was depicted in her wonderful record collection. Later on, her enthusiasm transformed into a new initiative - aged 18, Marita eventually started DJing and throwing a regular home party series in Germany, alongside friends and like-minded people.

Since returning to Georgia, Marita debuted at HOROOM and then at BASSIANI’s queer night series HOROOM NIGHTS. Besides music, things that really inspire her are sci-fi literature and the surrounding environment and social life with its daily occurrences. Therefore, she considers DJing to be a very special responsibility, as inspired by the music and social happenings simultaneously, NEBBIERI thinks a DJ can compose and express a dramaturgically rigorous story.

Yet another talent hailing from the Georgian capital: Shin label boss Newa kicks off our next episode with her left-field strain of aquatic beats. If she hasn’t crossed your radar yet, the Bassiani resident could do soon. Since 2012, Newa’s experimental productions and makeshift sets have been making her presence felt all over this town. That’s changed a little with the pandemic (and becoming a mother), which makes this rare recording, her first set in a while, all the more special. Stay tuned for an incomparable gem: cheeky millennial euphoria, acid frequencies, apoplectic basslines, this one’s got it all.

These twin flames are faithful custodians of the Georgian scene and not for nothing. Independently, the duo have a discernible in-your-face spirit all their own, but together they make for a formidable pair whose sound for sore ears is thrilling and instinctual. She’s the recondite face behind the decks at Horoom, without so much as a flinch, spinning ice-cool sounds that gradually scale and make an intimate home of whatever space they might fill. Her unadulterated techno steers clear of typical tropes and delivers something keenly personal, intelligent loops that playfully coil and dance with their pliant crowd. As for Bassiani Podcast 169: she’s just as ingenious in the studio, gradually building a complex palette of off-kilter tunes and drumloops of the most persistent stripe. This rising tide is coursing along at her own speed, a force fated for big things: this hour long segue is just Olly breaking ground.

Throughout the month of July, RYC teams up with the Georgian monument of techno that is Bassiani to bring you a healthy diet of weekly mixes courtesy of its amazing cast of residents. Revving up the engines, Ndrx strikes first with two hours of his mind and body-entrancing pyrotechnics. Creator of bespoke floor narratives that defy the laws of gravity, Ndrx will have you whirling off into orbit thanks to his ever-reliable instinct for selection and a laser-guided precision in DJing. Diving deep into origami-esque dub folds and drilling his way farther across squelchy, 90s-informed uptempo territories, the Tbilisi maestro casts out nines as to his Bassiani stalwart status, exemplifying his levels of floor-destroying abilities with utmost boldness and panache. For the next mix of Bassiani podcast series, NDRX,  the resident of the club has teamed up with Georgia's finest Newa for whom 2017 has been a defining year. The set was recorded at Bassiani as part of the 'Invited by Residents' night.

As DJs, both have a big musical range but also they share the common touchstone that makes this mix so colorful and exciting. Across a mind-bending 150 minutes NDRX and Newa offer an unpredictable, delightful and head spinning dance tunes. They are very comfortable with a diverse aesthetic so the mix contains surprising musical shifts and inventive transitions with dark, punchy textures, driving baselines and untempered thrill.

For the 40th edition of the Fast Forward Audio Series we present to you - NEWA

Coming from the jazz scene (and being a classically trained musician) Ana Kublashvili chose the artist name Newa when she progressed into the electronic music field. Newa started out as a DJ in 2012 in her hometown of Tbilisi, Georgia, quickly making a name for herself around in the city’s famous nightlife spots. She is a regular at the world-renowned Bassiani venue, a space that has given her a foundation to establish her skills on an international scale. Newa is also a recurring favourite at Ben Klock’s touring event-series Photon.

When it comes to Newa’s own productions it is a direct transition from her sound as a DJ; she represents a nuanced artist, building her musical presence on technical skill and honest feelings. Her authenticity extends into the studio. What you discover when listening to her work is a producer who expertly manages to measure all elements; deep bass lines and sunken melodies coexist in harmony. Whether the end result is techno or an experimental ambient piece, she manages to create music resonating with depth and reflection. Subspiele Records debuted Newa’s first own productions in 2012, since then she has gone on to release records on fine labels such as Klockworks, Semantica and the Bassiani in-house label. Since 2016 she also co-runs the diverse Icontrax imprint; here the focus lies on presenting undiscovered local talent from the flourishing Georgian techno scene.

Après un premier EP partagé avec Abdulla Rashim, elle sort ensuite Icon Trax également sur Klockworks & Semantica (BenKlock, DVS1, etc). Ces mixes sont puissants, frénétiques, et tourmentés alliant la techno aux sonorités deep, ghetto house & more. Un vrai melting-pot de saveurs.

We want to start this new year 2021 with all the power, that's why our Inherencia Podcast #14 is by the amazing German DJ and producer Fiedel, resident of the legendary Berghain. His great soul and talent always smash the dance-floor, with groovy and energetic techno, ranging from old school acid sounds, breakbeats, bangers and mash-ups. This set was recorded on the 3rd Inherencia Anniversary, on 31 October 2020 in Berlin.
