Next up in the Fast Forward Audio Series, we present: NEBBIERI

NEBBIERI is a stage name of a charismatic DJ, Marita Nebieridze, whose sets are based on the synthesis of techno, electro, and breakbeat. Her music vision was inspired at an early age by artists such as Kate Bush, The Prodigy, Psychic TV, Wendy Carlos, Kraftwerk, Brian Eno, and many more. The inspiration was depicted in her wonderful record collection. Later on, her enthusiasm transformed into a new initiative - aged 18, Marita eventually started DJing and throwing a regular home party series in Germany, alongside friends and like-minded people.

Since returning to Georgia, Marita debuted at HOROOM and then at BASSIANI’s queer night series HOROOM NIGHTS. Besides music, things that really inspire her are sci-fi literature and the surrounding environment and social life with its daily occurrences. Therefore, she considers DJing to be a very special responsibility, as inspired by the music and social happenings simultaneously, NEBBIERI thinks a DJ can compose and express a dramaturgically rigorous story.

Yet another talent hailing from the Georgian capital: Shin label boss Newa kicks off our next episode with her left-field strain of aquatic beats. If she hasn’t crossed your radar yet, the Bassiani resident could do soon. Since 2012, Newa’s experimental productions and makeshift sets have been making her presence felt all over this town. That’s changed a little with the pandemic (and becoming a mother), which makes this rare recording, her first set in a while, all the more special. Stay tuned for an incomparable gem: cheeky millennial euphoria, acid frequencies, apoplectic basslines, this one’s got it all.

Newa is now one of BASEMENT’s first residents. Her BASEMENT mix kicks the series off with a bang. Her set exemplifies techno at its rushing, futuristic best. Churning with a fleet-footed defiance, these 65 minutes show her firing on all cylinders. Describing the club, she says: “The first time I entered it, it felt like home. I try to choose very special tracks to play in BASEMENT, because there are not many clubs where I feel at home. The intimacy of BASEMENT is unique.”

Previous Podcast guests Ndrx and Newa return to the series with Bassiani Podcast 168, a b2b live set recorded back at the club in early March. These twin flames are faithful custodians of the Georgian scene and not for nothing. Independently, the duo have a discernible in-your-face spirit all their own, but together they make for a formidable pair whose sound for sore ears is thrilling and instinctual. Their surging techno bouts are the result of a flawless combo that sprints between slamming beats and underwater echoes with a kindling tempo designed to pique your primal senses. For Newa, when DJing, the emotional guidance she uses to locate the structure of her set is key. She builds something that has all the ingredients of classic techno and at the same time perfectly mirrors its present sound. She explores the low-level end of the bass-spectrum as well as cunningly introducing squelchy acid together with intense melodies. Newa’s techno is direct with an intense presence, yet never forceful or intrusive.

For the next mix of Bassiani podcast series, NDRX,  the resident of the club has teamed up with Georgia's finest Newa for whom 2017 has been a defining year. The set was recorded at Bassiani as part of the 'Invited by Residents' night.

As DJs, both have a big musical range but also they share the common touchstone that makes this mix so colorful and exciting. Across a mind-bending 150 minutes NDRX and Newa offer an unpredictable, delightful and head spinning dance tunes. They are very comfortable with a diverse aesthetic so the mix contains surprising musical shifts and inventive transitions with dark, punchy textures, driving baselines and untempered thrill.

He has been an active DJ for over 15 years. 
His debut solo record was released on Bassiani Records on May 15th, 
2020. Kancheli is considered as one of the most important and versatile Georgian techno DJs.
His previous gigs took place in Berghein, Spielraum and Shelter in Amsterdam,
Robert Johnson in Frankfurt, CTM festival in Germany,  Dimensions festival and many more.
