Next up in the Fast Forward Audio Series, we present: Kancheli

Giorgi Kancheli is a Georgian producer and resident DJ at Bassiani who has been crucial in shaping the country’s club culture. Growing up in the dark and crumbling Tbilisi, in the ’90s, has greatly influenced his musical identity.

Kancheli’s professional relationship with music began with percussion, and at the age of 17, he was already playing at the Tbilisi jazz festival. Soon after that, he got into electronic music and has now been an active DJ for over 15 years. In early 2010, Kancheli and his friends started the project ‘Stare at DJ’, which quickly became the main event of the country’s evolving club scene. Today, Kancheli is one of the most popular DJs in his hometown Tbilisi, headlining many major festivals in Georgia and performing at the industry’s most respected venues such as Berghain, Robert Johnson, Shelter, Dimensions, and CTM Festival.
Besides spinning the decks, Giorgi also writes and produces his own music.
In spring 2020, his debut solo EP “Earthshaketrance” got released on Bassiani Records.
Kancheli also co-runs the label Shin Records - a label focused on emerging Georgian producers.

Fast Forward Audio Series #69: Kancheli

Sophie Phare is an emergent fixture of Georgian club culture. Since 2016 she’s taken inspiration from the land, everything from the Black Sea coast to Tbilisi’s dancefloor denizens, and funnelled these influences into a frequent schedule as rebel selector for queer party Horoom Nights. Like the series, Phare has activism running through her veins: her resonant and peppy mixes are the language she chooses to spread her anti-normative creed, one geared to creating a more inclusive world. And with italo, acid and perky house forming the backbone of Bassiani Podcast 132, she’ll encourage everyone to have fun in the process. This one’s a lightning-speed broadcast from the budding maverick talent.

Previous Podcast guests Ndrx and Newa return to the series with Bassiani Podcast 168, a b2b live set recorded back at the club in early March. These twin flames are faithful custodians of the Georgian scene and not for nothing. Independently, the duo have a discernible in-your-face spirit all their own, but together they make for a formidable pair whose sound for sore ears is thrilling and instinctual. Their surging techno bouts are the result of a flawless combo that sprints between slamming beats and underwater echoes with a kindling tempo designed to pique your primal senses. Watch this space, the duo’s skull sessions are reciprocal spellwork in the making, and who knows what they’ll summon up next.

As many of you have asked, here is vol. 2 of my Body Pressure mix. I recorded the first one for the launch of my Body Pressure moniker and have had an amazing time playing with this project since then. 

I recorded this one without any thinking and preparation, just added some new favorite cuts and stuck my usb in cdj’s and went through all the playlists I have prepared for my previous Body Pressure gigs, trying to recreate those energy and memories.
