Sevensol is undoubtedly one of the most charismatic figures to have garnered the support of music heads in recent years. He’s now based in Berlin, and a purveyor of the finest house, with a long-standing collaboration with Map.ache titled Manamana, a third of the duties at record label KANN and now Long Vehicle vying for his attention; when he isn’t enchanting crowds at De School or Nachtdigital that is. There’s nothing pretentious about him or his craft, just fun, unfussy, pleasure-inducing house with a measure of emotion woven through his mixes. Uplifting beats for breezy summer nights - if you’re looking for the perfect score for the coming months, Sevensol has you more than covered. Bassiani Podcast 176 is a cut from his set at the Morevi Records night back in June at Horoom. One that charms and channels the kind of pure optimistic peak time energy that's sure to get you moving. Local selector and Horoom resident Dito Chikovani delivers a perfect dose of blissful house for Bassiani Podcast 180. His trade is intimate and done by feeling, mood being key to his dancefloor dialogues, no doubt helped by an impeccable taste for records that lends a hint of the unexpected to his work on the decks. This modus operandi naturally extends to this next instalment: patient, confidently shapeshifting through space and time, communicating through progressive rhythms, sultry melodies and deeper interludes. This one’s a live recording from the Bassiani season closing night back in July when he took over opening duties just ahead of DJ Masda. Close to three hours packed with uplifting beats and dreamy synths for balmy summer nights.

Multidisciplinary artist and queer agitator Valley Dolly is a long time friend and light designer to Bassiani as well as a member of the locally-based Hydrash collective. An eager student of the heady nights of New York underground culture, in their sound there’s an undeniable debt to the house music of that time and place, and the many constituent queer and trans faces that lit the way for so many who came after. By extension Valley Dolly, who also works under the alias Svecki*, uses their skills and context to probe contemporary inequalities, question gender paradigms and deliver a radical critique of the same in the form of perky and silver-toned beats. Their work also alludes to a wider palette of personal inspirations, everything from the quotidian rituals of Tbilisi life to video games and horror films. All of it comes together in a bespoke and brightly coloured house sound that radiates joy and positivity. Savvy rhythms that bounce along at steady pace, melodies that seduce and blaze a trail from start to closing track with one simple goal set in their sights, sharing that feeling of love and inclusivity. Bassiani Podcast 228 kicks off the heavy burden of patriarchal culture with a wink and a smile and sets its ablaze with equal zeal, an hour of breezy tunes from a cherished member of the Georgian scene, and here's hoping there’ll be many more to come.

Ahead of Amniote Editions’ 5 year anniversary night at Bassiani on the 6th of December (cancelled due to street protests) comes a very special mix from Munich’s finest, BASHKKA. Derived from the Turkish word for ‘different’ (she has roots there), the name reflects a no f*cks given approach to sound and culture that draws people toward her like moth to flame. From formative days in New York City where she started taking inspiration from its wealth of queer histories, she carved an insubordinate sound that’s crossed the Atlantic and set up shop in her native Germany, where her liberating tunes have found common cause with such venues as Blitz Club, Panorama Bar and Amsterdam’s Raum just a hop and a skip across the border. The aim is to reclaim spaces, assert the existence of marginalised groups (SWANA people like herself for one), amplify their narratives and create moments’ where ‘individual heartbeats merge into one motherbeat’. Further to those activist visions, her debut EP Maktub (2023) was a five-track banger and labour of love that synthesised Kurdish vocal samples with runaway beats. The reference to overlooked perspectives and elusive spark found at the intersection of culture and sound is the driving force, and something that’s felt in the gut when she plays. It’s a much needed energy in turbulent times, a reminder that you can save the world and have fun doing it. For Bassiani Podcast 242, BASHKKA brings her inimitable rhythms to the fore of the counter-cultural struggle: brazen and rave-ready, a two-hour trip to the future, slamming beats from a true icon.
