For Amsterdam DJ Afra, wax is the medium of choice. Her weekly routine will often entail casting her eponymous jewellery pieces (Afra Amba), with weekends spent spinning vinyls at Spielraum, Herrensauna, and Säule. Her start in music came early, listening to Miss Kittin, tweaking frequencies on her dad’s home-studio equipment and buying her first decks at 16, followed a brief two years later by her enthusiastic DJ debut. Citing a need to develop before starting to play, she focused on the former craft and came back to DJing once she’d found her voice. And found it she now has. With a soft-spot for noughties electro and the wobbling sounds of the Dutch West Coast, her gritty sets and output on co-run label Mindri are the stuff apocalyptic dreams are made of. Flying the rave flag in Georgia’s western city Kutaisi, is co-founder and resident of heritage listed Reflector club and all-round promising talent G.Kura. Since 2017, his venue has been furnishing its local neighbourhood with all manner of electronic sounds and giving the DJ himself a perfect platform to promote an assortment of local and international artists. Among the household names, much of the Bassiani roster have spun on Reflector’s decks since opening, so it’s only natural Giorgi now returns the favour. Zurkin at Horoom / Vodkast with Bufiman

Far from the dancefloor, Helena Hauff’s soaring techno remains strikingly physical. Industrial/EBM references lend her sets a sport-like flair and her audiences usually follow the cue. This is a sweaty, fast-tempo addition to the Bassiani mix roster.
