This one’s a firm nod to London and its unique cultural genome. Tasha got her start in drum and bass, with early support from DJ Flight and Storm, regular slots at Renegade Hardware, and a side shift at central London’s now defunct record store BM Soho. That, and her own party-going forays threw a growing fixation with techno into the mix and it’s here at the crossroads of these two influences that Tasha started to find her voice. For four years starting 2009, and now again on a monthly basis since 2018, she’s held down a residency on Rinse FM, and the distinctly homespun feel of the outlet has left a permanent mark on her sound, one that’s intimately tied to both community and the station’s roots as a fledgling pirate station way back when. Equally formative was Shoreditch venue Plastic People, where she took charge of event programming alongside Sigha, a role she followed with the starting of her own solo venture titled ’Neighbourhood’ - a bringing together of artists in her orbit among which figure names like Pangaea, Pariah, Ben Sims, Zenker Brothers and Stenny. It now calls FOLD home, but the name, and you’d be hard pressed to find a better one, has stuck. It also stuck to the label that project spawned in 2016 and all the subsequent releases that kept that vision going. Tasha’s art, like the life it inhabits, is in constant movement. Brisk basslines with a heavy debt to London’s wealth of musical styles, openness of spirit and DIY fervour. Bassiani Podcast 232 is a banger, 70 minutes of contagious rhythmic momentum; kinetic techno with a UK twist and a point of inflection that’s firmly rooted in the city she calls home. It’s a tale often told: Sweden’s restrictive politics vis-à-vis raves have inadvertently created a fertile world on the fringes where many of the country’s talents have pushed their craft in an act of punkish rebellion. Having spent her teenage years collecting music (a habit inherited from a dad whose love of jazz, blues and folk left a lasting mark), Philippa Pacho discovered this hidden world of illegal gatherings, before trying her hand at spinning records and landing a residency at Stockholm’s storied Under Bron back in 2012. Berlin was soon in her sights, and it’s there she found a more recent base, her career heated up, and her (and Blue Hour’s) positivesource project came to light. From Bassiani to De School to Berghain, Philippa’s still going strong a decade in; and she does more than mix tracks, she crafts stories that drive a vision of music that gets both crowds and feelings off the ground. With her ballooning raft of rave-ready bookings past and present her name is a synonym for tripped-out full-tilt techno, if you’re already a fan you know the score. Zenaari Mix 014 presents another facet of her world, it’s a dreamlike 87 minute studio mix, a trip through ambient cityscapes and appraisal of a slower, stranger side of sound, kaleidoscopic bleeps from one of techno’s leading lights.

Kicking off 2025 in the best company as Tokyo-born, Amsterdam-based don Wata Igarashi takes over with a masterclass in pulsating futuristic techno and widescreen sonics. Through a flurry of top-of-the-range releases for the likes of Dekmantel, Kompakt, Figure and his own imprint, WIP, the Japanese producer has been cementing his position as a true innovator of techno music. His unparalleled knack for crafting big-room-ready tunes that engineer a complex cocktail of cutting-edge elegance, modular intuitivity and hi-impact punch has logically made him a much sought-after talent in the scene. Not departing from that polymathic approach, his RYC mix, recorded at the PURE G event at FINAL Taipei on December 7, treats us to a storm of shape-shifting grooves and brutalist fractals of sound. Next up in our series, we’re excited to welcome Mary Yuzovskaya, a DJ and producer whose surgical sense of the groove and love for minimal sound structures have become trademarks over the years. At the helm of her own record label, Monday Off, Mary puts in the same precision and effort she dishes out through all of her vinyl-only DJ sets. Stripped-back and highly cerebral, her style sits at the junction of heavily dubbed-out psychedelia, liquid abstraction and post-industrialism, and this mix doesn’t differ. Enter Yuzovskaya’s mazy new vinyl exclusive mix with crumbs of bread in your pocket and some red thread, for we’re yet to know where the labyrinth ends. But does it even have an end?

Luxembourg’s Ogazón (of Nathalie Ogazón Faber) followed her studies to the Netherlands and fell deep down the rabbit hole of Amsterdam nightlife, Trouw she recounts as transformative. Enough so that she followed that thread starting in the mid 2010s as neophyte DJ before upping sticks for Berlin a few years later. There, her passion for digging and upbeat outlook landed her in Ryan Elliot’s sights, a partnership that’s taken B2B form on more than a few occasions and led to further work with fellow blue chipper Marcel Dettmann (she signed to his agency in 2023). These days Ogazón’s sound is spreading to the pace of its rapid tempo, and her schedule’s all the more punishing for it. Dekmantel, Awakenings, DGTL, Berghain, Robert Johnson, the list gets longer. Refusing trivial categorisations, her work pivots between groovy house and austere techno, bringing together various influences (the ambient inclinations of Sofia Coppola she also cites) and keeping her vision broad. For Bassiani Podcast 241 she errs on the side of techno, delivering a profound two-hour mix that marches unrepentantly forward, zipping from ascetic track to track and building an atmosphere thick with subtle detail. This is deep, utilitarian techno for unsettled times and Ogazón leads the way.

Blue Hour doesn’t need much of an intro, since 2013 the Brightonian DJ, Producer and label head has built a reputation for quick-witted techno and spread his sound at viral pace. The whys are evident, through the years Luke Standing has walked a road from a love of UK dance music genres  (and associated incursions under the monikers Furesshu and Esoteric), to full-bore and masterfully cut techno. When he called the UK home, fate inevitably pulled him into Berlin’s orbit, a place he’d often visit to get his musical fix, and for over a decade it’s been his new nest. He’s come into his own here, working hard (and playing hard) to build a sturdy vision that’s evinced through bookings, releases and close contact with names like Dold, Alpha Tracks, Scandinavian trance collective UTE and Philippa Pacho (with whom he runs forward-thinking  sublabel positivesource). His work, and everything his eponymous label puts out, is stimulating and high order, hedonic techno made for the big room that assuringly cuts all felt spatial and temporal bonds. Smouldering loops that reference his love of 90s rave, and pull equally from IDM, breakbeat, acid, trance and UK bass, furnishing a signature style that’s bullet-fast and unstoppable. Bassiani Podcast 245 is an hour-long studio-recorded spell to the tune of his trademark euphoria. Sweaty beats made for dancing well up to and beyond the blue hour.

BASEMENT introduces BASEMENT Archives, a new podcast series highlighting standout sets recorded live in the club. 

First up is the impromptu b2b2b2b from Fadi Mohem, Kancheli, NDRX and Philippa Pacho that closed out last April’s Bassiani takeover. If you were there, you know how special this night was. Ten minutes before we planned to wrap the night, it was decided that the music simply could not stop. The four artists took over the booth in BASEMENT, and what resulted was 3 hours of euphoric techno that sent everyone out on an incredible high. These are moments that can’t be planned, curated or recreated. When they happen, you pray the recorder is on and running. Thank god it was.
