Recent years have seen Mob Tactics revel in creative freedom. Releases like the “Body Check EP” and 
the Ryme Tyme - laced “Tweakers” have demonstrated multiple facets to their sound. Unconstrained by 
sub-genre limitations, the one thread that binds all their work is that commitment to making ravers 
move. Complex and technical, but with an irresistible edge of funk aimed straight at the dancefloor, 
Mob Tactics established their brand of drum & bass circa 2010, and quickly caught the ear of the likes of 
Andy C, DJ Hype, and Chase & Status. Signed and certified by some of the biggest DJs and labels in the 
scene, we've got a feeling they're just getting started.
So. Ok... This one... right then, prepare yourselves. Leading off with some old school Bukum style pleasant chords Mob Tactics come hard on the switch up with some serious screw face stomper business. The classic Duke Nukum style vocal tees up some vicious drum workouts that body the track and will body the dance floor every time. Pure shirts off, fight music right here so keep your guard up!

They gave up their eyes in the quest for real vision, gave up their souls to match the black pits of their sockets, twisted and contorted in an endless orgy of bloodshed until only the strongest remained. They who were blind to their humanity, stripped of virtue, naked against the vast heavens above, enshrouded in the entrails of their enemies. In the aftermath of each assault, under the watchful eyes of their offworld shepherds, they gathered their strength again and prepared for the next INVASION.

The DUB ELEMENTS duo return to the expansive EATBRAIN label in force, following up their 2 track pincer movement with ‘POW’ and ‘Shots Fired’ on the Mirror Universe compilation with their first full release - the INVASION EP. With a rich and heavy background in the dark arts of harder drum and bass, the five tracks within are designed with the pure intent of knocking the hell out of the rave. Most people don’t think too much about their food. It’s understandable really, we humans as a species don’t like to think when we’re hungry. After all, that’s energy that could be spent chowing down on whatever happens to be put in front of us at the time. There’s something special about food and what it does to our brain, how happy it makes us to do such a simple thing as refueling our bodies. Everyone’s got their favorites, delectable delicacies of which they just can’t get enough. All of these preferences are all well and good, but I must confess that I consider them a bit inferior. I am of course a connoisseur for whom only the best will do, not only just for dinner but for lunch and breakfast too.

As far back as I can remember I’ve always craved new tastes, new flavors to excite my tongue and make my heartbeat race. As a child I loved the usual things like candy and dessert, but such simple things get old when you eat them all the time. Though I even ate my vegetables and found their flavours fine, my boredom with these basic tastes inched closer every day. I tried the foods of other countries, even haggis and its ilk, but still I was not satisfied with these tastes from far away. What I craved was something more, something viscerally exciting, a meal I could make myself without a recipe in writing. It needed to be bold in taste with complexity of texture, with the slightest hint of savagery and a pinch of salt for flavor. You see I’ve finally found it, a meal that I can savor, and its standing right before me exhibiting curious behavior. Now’s the best part, my favorite time of the day. Twelve o'clock on the dot, it’s LUNCHTIME. Won’t you stay?

REDPILL serves up a delicious new EP on EATBRAIN with the release of LUNCHTIME, following up the Call of the Warchief EP which started the year for him on the label. The five track EP features his uniquely horror infused sound in full, as well as a collaboration with neurofunk champion MERIKAN aptly entitled CHILDREN OF CHAOS, which rages upon the strength of its furious bassline and fast paced snares. The titular LUNCH TIME features monstrous vocal intoned with evil intent, whilst the syncopated rhythms of BOOM BOOM create explosive shockwaves as the EPs second track. AND THE HERO WILL FALL narrates a tragic epic with its grand arpeggios and harmonic bass and is followed by the aforementioned collaboration before FUSION synthesizes the disparate aspects of the EP within a single track. Placing singular focus on his sinister sound, LUNCHTIME shows REDPILL operating at peak performance.

Burr Oak is the new collaborative project from The Clamps and Opsen (formally known for his part in the production outfit Signs). With both parties having already made their mark within the roster of Trendkill, the imprint created by drum & bass figurehead Prolix, their names will be familiar with many veteran fans of the genre. But their joint prowess, alongside the massive body of tracks they’ve already got prepared for release, proves that their output is set to be a turning point for Trendkill. And this is from a label which has had a groundbreaking discography since its inception.

Burr Oak is the new name which The Clamps and Opsen have collided under and their forthcoming, double-sided single will identify their sound and demonstrate the relentlessness of their production. Both ‘Time Has Come’ and its flipside ‘Originate’ are intimidating slabs of sonic, the type of which would be enviable to even the most longstanding producers and it proves that head honcho Prolix has his ear to the ground when its comes to artists with such high-reaching levels of sound design.

‘Time Has Come’ is the A-side and almost instantly explodes through its first breakdown, the type of which catapults you down a winding road of slamming drum patterns and finely tuned hooks. The danceability of this track is undeniable and it rockets into play, only once pulling for the brakes as it drops you into the pair’s expansive sonic landscape before once again, you’re hurled back into the chaos. The reverse is delivered through ‘Originate’, just as cataclysmic as it winds you through its first manic acceleration. Its note flurries and fluctuating bass takes you out into the deep before crazed drums cut at you from all sides. Burr Oak don’t offer up a less aggressive B-side to their release and it gives you an idea of how they’ll be continuing with their release schedule. 

This is a debut which no fan of the darker midst of drum & bass is set to miss. Prolix has proven that as well as being a production heavyweight, he’s also a revered selector, with Trendkill’s catalogue evidence of this fact.

Bad Signals

⚡ Cloaked in darkness the forest surrounded them close like a coffin, and the noise filled the space to the point where it was deafening. The two figures drawn together in the nothingness from different lives and worlds, their eyes blank and neon glowing with ferocity.
