What is a DJ set?

A ‘set’ is not just a collection of tracks that are played one after the other. It is a carefully curated experience that takes the listener on a journey, creates a narrative and forms a Gesamtkunstwerk.

A Gesamtkunstwerk is an art form that combines different disciplines - music, theatre, visual arts - into a single, comprehensive work.

The DJ transforms the dance floor into a ‘set’ in which music, environment and audience tell a story together.

These stories can be quite banal, like reporting on your last holiday in Mallorca.

Or they can be substantial.

Content-rich sets take you on a journey by deviating from their usual, predictable and expected structure at very specific points for very specific reasons.

Everyone knows the opposite of this: when you can't spontaneously remember the last or penultimate track, in the club or at the festival, because everything sounds so similar. 

After all, you have to move, change and venture into the unknown if you want to travel.
