2015 saw Damian Lazarus create his most ambitious project to date in The Ancient Moons, producing a full length album ‘Message From The Other Side’ with a wide assortment of vocalists and collaborators from around the world. They went on to support Roisin Murphy on tour, gain acclaim from the likes of Dazed & Confused and Lazarus became the final coverstar of the year in the UK”s Mixmag magazine.

Now the tracks from ‘The Other Side’ have been reinterpreted by an assortment of stars, from techno stalwarts Juan Atkins & Kimyon Huggins, to German experimental talent Kölsch, and Acid Pauli’s sprawling fusion of weirdness. The original material is ploughed in new and surprising directions by Black Butter’s own Gorgon City and Mehmet Asian, resident at Berlin’s infamous Wilde Renate club.

Talent from Lazarus’ label Crosstown Rebels, including Francesca Lombardo, DrumTalk and Israeli trio Red Axes also produce their own visions for the music, all of which retain the mysticism of the original with added dancefloor appeal. The final four tracks revisit some of the biggest moments from the Moons to date, as the album revisits interpretations from Jamie Jones, Dixon, Serge Devant and &Me.

Co-produced by James Ford (Simian Mobile Disco, Arctic Monkeys, Florence & The Machine), The Ancient Moons was always a unique project, which has now been stretched to include the flavours of some of the most exciting artists shaping the musical landscape right now.

Recorded in Mexico, LA and London, ‘The Other Side’ features instrumentalists from Mozambique, Guinea, Pakistan, Egypt, America and even Mexico’s own Yucatan Symphony Orchestra.

Damian Lazarus & The Ancient Moons - Vermillion (&ME Remix)

This electroacoustic composition by S. Summers is made entirely from recordings of the Acousatron, which is the new Noisy Toys interactive installation of 2017. The Acousatron is mainly comprised of acoustic instruments (primarily a piano and 4 violins) with electrical and mechanical controls that allow visitors to control and play the instruments in new ways. The sounds used here follow the process of building the Acoustatron, including it's development through many of the Noisy Toys workshops. The 'auto-strummers' used to strike the strings are the same as those used by thousands of people in schools and at public events who have attended our 'Scavengers' and 'Circuit Boxes' workshops over the last few years. The sounds of the motors and the flails hitting various objects start and finish this piece. Contact and acoustic microphone recordings taken from some of the national events that we took the Acousatron to in 2017 feature throughout; UK Maker Faire, Big Bang Fair, Science and Media museum relaunch.

 Here is the recording of my very first sunrise set at Burning Man 2018 in the Black Rock Desert. I started playing around 5:45 am, the lights and lasers were still glowing in the cold darkness of the night..as the songs were passing by, the sky turned blue and the horizon warmer. Burners were all facing the deep playa, waiting for the sun to appear. It was an honour to soundtrack this moment and share music in such a magical place. No matter how hard I try, words can barely describe the energy and emotions felt in that instant... I hope music can express it better. 

I'd like to thank Maxa Camp & The Gardens of Babylon for inviting me to play on this beautiful Xaman Art Car...the mystical blue deer.   I’m very grateful to have shared this moment with so many incredible souls, old and new friends.

To be honest, we've been waiting to put this set out ever since we first conceptualized the idea of D Laz playing DH. Damian has been one of our favorite DJs and a constant inspiration for us over the years. He’s the only person we’ve given a 4 hour set to and he turned it into something that went down in history alongside the best sets we’ve ever seen at the fest.

Making his debut on Crosstown Rebels, AEON founder Alex Niggemann takes us on a sonic exploration of the African continent for his next musical venture.

Allow yourself to melt into the hypnotic rhythm of Zoulou. Ambient sounds are textured with percussion that lures you in. Tribal chants and explosive drums seek add drama as the abundance of intricate layers pull you along for the journey. Bwana is more progressive than its predecessor with a soft drumbeat underpinning it. It utilises that same tribal vocal stab contrasting against harder synths.

Alex Niggemann is an artist who prides himself on being innovative and forward thinking when it comes to electronic music. Over the years, he’s had releases on Last Night On Earth, Watergate and Poker Flat Recordings. In 2013 he set up his own impressive imprint, AEON, in a bid to release music that breathes quality and originality and blurs the line between house and techno. Recently celebrating its fifth anniversary, AEON is now a fully fledged brand and has played a part in bringing now established artists such as Denis Horvat, Speaking Minds and TVA to the forefront of the scene.
