Following the success of June’s “Don’t Know I’m Dead Or Not (feat. Chester Watson)” - with press from the likes of Clash, Brooklyn Vegan, Rolling Stone Italy, and radio support from BBC Radio 6 (Artist Spotlight) and Worldwide FM - the Italian-Tunisian wunderkind LNDFK returns to Bastard Jazz with a new single, “How Do We Know We’re Alive (feat. Pink Siifu).” 

Further honing her signature jazz-inflected, ethereal future soul sound, LNDFK’s stacked harmonies float above an arpeggiated synth line and glitchy percussion, before she whispers the song’s first verse. The beat builds to skittering hi-hats and a complex, Thundercat-esque (LNDFK has shared the stage with fellow Brainfeeder artist Kamasi Washington), bass line for the second verse, before LA alt-rap king Pink Siifu takes the helm, delivering fittingly abstract bars, replete with phonetically-dense wordplay. 

LNDFK is a singer and songwriter, born of two cultures – an Italian mother and Arab father. She grew up in Naples, away from her father, the Sahara, her homeland and traditions, which has helped nourish the desire to rediscover – through art – an engagement to her roots. Her music melts with jazz, neo-soul and hip-hop influences, filtered through her experiences and sensibility. 

Her first EP, "Lust Blue," was composed with the artistic production of Dario Bass and released by Feelin' Music; after that she released several singles that saw international radio support (BBC, NTS, Wordwide FM) and gained a massive audience on digital platforms. Together with her band, she toured around Europe sharing the stage with the likes of Kamasi Washington and Mndsgn, among others. Her last appearance on the stage was at the Primavera Sound Festival 2019 in Barcelona. 

“How Do We Know We’re Alive (feat. Pink Siifu)” is out on Brooklyn’s Bastard Jazz Recordings September 10th, ahead of an anticipated full-length project slated for early next year.

Italian-Tunisian wunderkind LNDFK (Linda Feki) returns with another single, ahead of her debut album release on February 11th, 2022. “Ku” is a sonic journey through jazz, future soul, and experimental electronic sounds, bridging the gap between Hiatus Kaiyote-esque songwriting, Dilla’s rhythmic syncopation, and Thundercat’s instrumental prowess (LNDFK has shared a stage Brainfeeder labelmate Kamasi Washington). Inspired by the graphic novel and film, “Sin City,” and its female assassin protagonist Miho, “Ku” is a musical interpretation of Miho’s story, incorporating both her beauty – the first half of the song – and murderous tendencies – the second half – to create a stunning juxtaposition, culminating in an ambient finale that suggests the character’s vulnerability and inner peace.

“Kuni” is a spellbinding exploration of dichotomies: Love & Death (Eros & Thanatos), Flower & Fire, Delicacy & Violence, Poetry & Realism, Purification & Destruction. These opposites are reified in the 10-track LPs multifarious and multifaceted sounds, elegantly meandering through a variety of styles and genres, spearheaded by Linda and features the production wizardry of Darrio Bassolino who co-wrote the album.

Today we are announcing the first compilation that we are putting together with artists we’re close to or a part of the movement.  For 10 years our focus has always been to provide the best and a solid ground for artists to put out their music – we are now trying a new approach and putting our name on a release to showcase our favorite producers in a collection of tracks carefully picked by the staff.

The vibe in the release is a flight mode collection of tracks before a night out or just cruising in the car on a sunny day or evening. A moment you could have before all this technology came to life was going to your friends house not knowing what to expect and i think this could describe the project pretty well. 

The focus has always been beats that vary in around 70 to 90 bpm but here we are seeing a boost in the tempo and i truly hope all of the listeners will appreciate the tracks we’ve added, the producers were introduced to the idea i mentioned above and i let them fully experiment with a style and not limit them in terms of creation.

For each of these projects in the future our aim will also be to showcase photographers, illustrators or painters to bring out and show light on people we appreciate in this scene. For this project i wanted someone i know that spends his weekends around the streets of Los Angeles taking shots of some of the most beautiful cars & crews around the area.
