Label mainstays Potatohead People are coming through with some future jazz heat for the second single ahead of the ‘20 Years of Bastard Jazz’ anniversary compilation. “Bonzai View” harkens back to the live instrumentation and technical prowess explored in last year’s outstanding ‘Mellow Fantasy’ LP, fused with a head-nodding boom-bap beat the duo is known for. The new track comes hot off some major releases for Potatohead People, including a DJ Jazzy Jeff & Kaidi Tatham remix of the group’s De La Soul collaboration, and production credits on a song from Phife Dawg’s critically acclaimed posthumous album with Illa J, which has just seen a brand new remix featuring Redman.
 
Brooklyn’s trend-setting label Bastard Jazz is celebrating 20 years of operation with an ambitious 4xLP compilation featuring half catalogue hits, and half new material from the current roster. It’s a testament to the label’s diverse and exploratory sound that touches everything from hip-hop to funk, house, and soul, all while maintaining a concurrent sonic thread. Here’s to 20 more!

Mirage is our second single out of the upcoming album titled "Liquid Fusion" by Elmo & Nico Harris. On this track the two young producers wanted to create an unmatched Jazz fantasy by writing a vibrant electro-jazz tune that left the perfect space for Israel Strom additions to shine in. The groovy drums, the magical synths and electric bass lines are so nicely complemented by the piano. Mirage is our ideal fusion blend and the result is so satisfying. It’s only the second single out of the project but you can already tell how incredible this one is going to be! Stay tuned as the third single will be revealed early December!

With the worldwide success of our Soulection Compilation Volume One which featured some of the most promising producers of our generation two years ago in January 2011, it was essential to create volume two. It's amazing to reflect on our progression and how far we've come. Here we are 27 releases later with our first official record! It has almost been a year since we started to compile this project. Since day one we've known that we would get to this very point.

The Time in Between captures genre-bending compositions from creative an entire year, this compilation delivers a timeless journey through future bass, boom bap, glitchy uptempo soulful melodies and then some. Soulection releases the Time in Between putting a time stamp on the unique musical epoch that is 2013. By serving up genre-vague and undefinable sounds to the people first, the label maintains and reinforces the relevance and need for this timeless sound.

These specific artists are all Soulection affiliated and we feel that every track on here has a "timeless' feel to it. In fact, we feel that this record is one that you can play years and years down the line and still get that original feeling of when you first heard it.
