Cologne was recorded in Köln, Germany over the course of 10 months. Being the residence of drummer / co-producer / engineer Maarten Hemmen we consider Köln to be a home away from home. At several locations we wrote and recorded the songs that now make up Cologne. We feel it captures the spirit of a phase in our lives, friendship and artistic freedom. Most of what you hear was thought up in sessions, recorded on a phone or one-mic setup, taken in over dinner and drinks and recorded in bare-bones setup the same evening or next day. Nothing was subtracted from these original recordings. Amazing producer / engineer Bas van Wageningen mixed the tracks at The Basement Studio in The Hague, The Netherlands.

Having considered cosmos consciousness with their debut ‘Universal’ and the extent of human potential with ‘Gold of the Highest’, Anglo-French trio Safetalk return to earth with third single ’Mimic’ released this November on new Paris based label Splinter. A psychic call to arms against the forces that seek to limit and contain us, ‘Mimic’ takes aim at those who seek to build walls around both our hearts and minds and our physical selves. Built around a call and response between the song’s lyrics and its powerful instrumentation, its rallying cry to speak up and demand change is carried along by the metronomic beat and borne aloft by the towering waves of crystalline synths and pulsating bass.

If that all sounds like neither your average protest or pop song then that’s because Safetalk have already shown themselves to be far from your average band in their brief existence. Tipped by the likes of Thump and Vice’s Creators platform in the US and Clash and the Ransom Note in the UK, the band’s fusion of psychedelic soul and captivating electronica along with a refined pop sensibility earning them comparisons to the likes of Future Islands, Tame Impala and even Simple Minds.

Ronald: "Nightfalls is not only the title track of our upcoming EP, it‘s also, at least for me, the most personal one. The original idea for the song is pretty old. It started with thoughts about sleeping problems and the atmosphere of nighttime in general, which came immediately with the chorus-melody. Then I showed it to the band and in the process of working on it together, it became something very different. More energetic, almost reggae-ish and less melancholic. The original demo actually sounded more like a low-fi industrial track than like a typical XZ song.“
