Lost In TRESOR

in the vast realm of Greek Mythology, Eris, the goddess of discord, has been a wellspring of inspiration for both ancient legends and contemporary astronomical discoveries. Giving her name to a dwarf planet uncovered in 2006, this celestial body embodies disruptive, warrior-like energy. ‘Christiaan van Bremen’ brings this celestial influence to the forefront in his EP ‘Eris’.

The three tracks constituting ‘Eris’ delve into the wisdom of ancient spiritual texts, ranging from Kabbalah to Greek Mythology, seamlessly intertwined with insights from modern astrology and contemplations on the profound impact of social media influencers. The EP unfolds as a narrative, delving into collective choices confronted by humanity in the face of fear and chaos.

‘Eris’ sets an evocative stage, introducing the goddess of discord who awakens listeners from their slumber with ominous sounds and disruptive elements. The darkness before the dawn unfolds through Hoover synths and detuned, melodic stabs.

Moving to the second track, ‘Before The Flash’ paints a vivid picture of mounting tension before a monumental shift. This track prompts deep introspection on how individuals respond to moments of change and explores the factors that either unite or divide us.

The EP reaches its conclusion with ‘Seraphim’ a track that portrays an awakening and issues a call to action. It challenges existing systems and encourages collaborative efforts to construct a new reality. Seraphim, depicted as red, six-winged angelic warriors, symbolize the transformative power of music.

Comprised by Andrea Cavani and Fabio Dall’Oglio we.amps has quickly risen through the ranks of the electronic music scene debuting in 2018 on Afro Acid, DJ Pierre’s esteemed label.

The duo’s love for the analog sound, Acid and Old school sonority has captivated label founder Massimiliano Pagliara and emerges strong in this infectious EP.

‘Unknown Brother’ and ‘Veggy Rocket’ feature raw beats evoking the spirit of classic acid cults, blended with progressive house crescendoes that highlight two aspects of the Chicago sound: the rolling groove and the eternal banging energy. 

‘Airwalk to Fakie’ leans towards the deep house genre, delivering a playful and comforting vibe simultaneously. The vocal around which ‘Amelio’ is built showcases we.amps fresh approach to the Disco sound while the ever-present acid bass reminds the listeners of the duo’s passionate love for the Roland 303.

DJ Subaru has already made their name exciting dancers with offbeat anthems and obscurities as part of their luminous Pleasuremaxxx parties, alongside similarly inclined soirees in Leeds, London, Berlin and beyond. Making their accomplished production debut on CWPT with 'Lots of Love', DJ Subaru instinctively mines the expressive, outsider strains of disco, Italo and pop pleasures in their record bag, revealing an EP that throbs with the pleasures, pain and potential of a life in strobes and smoke.

Vocalist and muse Tiss Vampiric emerges from London’s shadowy underground to lend their voice to the brooding, disco-Gothic track, ‘My Love’. Stalking a moody paradise amongst DJ Subaru’s EBM-oriented synthesizers, their baroque lyrics conjure an atmosphere that bridges  the energies of subversive pioneers such as Soft Cell and Ministry, a sensual maze where denial only leads to more devotion, as well as more dancing.

Keeping the lights dim but brightening the corners, the prolific cosmic disco pioneer Prins Thomas reinvigorates his legendary ‘Diskomiks’ approach for a euphoric remix of ‘My Love’. Incorporating DJ Subaru and Tiss Vampiric into a dancefloor canon that also includes Lana Del Rey, Pet Shop Boys and the Chemical Brothers, this classic arrangement has been road-tested to build euphoria, joyfully reflecting menace from mirrorballs.

The latter portion within 'Lots of Love' leaves us entirely in DJ Subaru’s musical visions. The only voice on ‘I <3 You’ is soft and robotic, intoning the track’s simple title over a lush, caramelized groove that’s pure circuits and sentiment. In contrast, the moody pads of ‘Just Visiting’ build to a crescendo of breaks and basslines that capture more urgent early hours energy, while ‘She’ provides a beautifully naive melody and a slightly balearic touch for a wide-eyed kiss goodbye.

Lucie Vuittong - Inhale Exhale Podcast #30

This track is heavily influenced by an early 90's house track by Frank De Wulf recording under his C-Concept Moniker.  The original track is called Why Naked? and was huge in legendary UK house clubs such as Quadrant Park in Bootle and Life at Bowlers in Manchester.  I have tried to re-capture the tracks vibe and spirit.  I made it over the course of a couple of very wet afternoons in April but with my mind on sunnier summer days that I hope are not too far away.  It has quite a dark evolving bassline that is contrasted with an uplifting piano which seems to  match my emotions whilst making the track looking out over a dark, wet, Leeds cityscape.
