Blues List II

When my family was preparing for arrival of my twins about 3 years ago, I was really excited to find out some information that there is a real kind of depression which parents suffer and it's called afterbirth or baby blues. Of course it's a great name for the song.

Thus I started to crystallize my parenthood experience humming this tune. There shall be several parts, this one is more dramatic and others are more lyrical depicting other sides of being a father.

This track is merely sound check. I just set my environment, plug an acoustic guitar and played it one time to see how it will sound. It's just one take and one one guitar was played. I cut the second part off because it was performed not very evenly :-) However, I rather pleased with what I got  for the very first attempt.

So I plan to redo the whole song shortly with other parts and release it soon.

Since there are questions about the sound - 

I have standard 6th string Fender acoustic guitar with a built-in Fishman preamp and the guitar itself sounds rather good. However, I feel that the sound is a bit dry while recording via preamp, so I put EHX MicroPOG octaver pedal in front of my sound card. The pedal has 2 outputs, one for bypassing an original signal and another one where you could blend octave down and octave up with your signal.

So for After-birth Blues I added a bit of octave down to my acoustic guitar sound and record it in parallel with an original one from the bypass output, since my EMU sound card has 2 inputs. Thus I had recorded 2 tracks: one with literally 12th string guitar sound (but with really deep octave down blend) and original 6th string one. After that I applied different kind of reverberation to each track and shifted one track far on the left channel and another far on the right channel, but since it's almost the same guitar part they sound virtually in the center.

Actually, I love MicroPOG for its versatility and I liberally used it in different styles, especially when our third Manager left the trio and we tried to sound as a full band performing as a duo. When the octave up is added the sound becomes similar to keyboards, and I have an unrecorded blues where the guitar line is dubbed with some synth sound. When I found this recording, at first time I had troubles to remember who, when and in what circumstances is playing here. Seems just tried to invent some solo.

UnforTUNEtely, latency correction was turned off during recording. For a couple of days I've been trying to find the beat and shift the solo track. Maybe not so successfully. 

Probably I will redo this thing  or add more notes on a distorted guitar.

I feel the lead is a bit repetitive, but that's what I played back then :) 
From 00:00 to 1m30 The Kitty Hawk the Kid amp and from 1m30 onwards, my Fender Cybertwin SE.  (What an amp that is)

Take a Tokai strat, an Okko Diablo overdrive a Fender Cybertwin SE and some Blues. The Okko was active during the whole recording session.


Reflections

2nd recording using the Epiphone Dot I nicknamed "Velvet".  My first Dot never got named.  Backing is a Slowblues in Cm. (the 2nd of yesterday's recordings)
My life lesson :  If you ever lay your hands on a good Black lefty Epiphone Dot, never sell it.  you need a multitude of luck to get another one.   yes I'm lucky

 I went back to College in my 50s and signed up for Music Tec.  Recording, Theory, etc.  Learning to use Computers and Operating Systems (Mac at School, Win. at Home) On the fly was Way Overwhelming for Me But My Love Of Music Was Stoked Even More 
and I Survived.  My first On Line Class I Was a Disaster.........I was taking my Final and my computer crashed Hard. I Knew very little about them.........but I did Know that I had waited till the last minute to test, Confident Because I had Studied and prepared.  Looking Back I Know I Shouldn't Have Been Streaming Tunes While I Tested And I Should Have Taken The Test With "Time To Spare".
When I Was Pleading With The Teacher Telling Him The Computer Crashed and He Told Me To "Tell It To Microsoft". 
     Well Well, Pissed Me Off So Bad I Got Some Books and Started Immersing MySelf in How To Understand This BEAR Called Computer.
That First Computer Only Had About 40 Gig Hard Drive, The Operating System Took Up About 28 Of That. Of Course Some Of That Is Dedicated To Storage of Music Files, Jpeg, Documents, Video etc. 2Gb Ram ---- Twenty Years Later:

      1200 Watt Modular Power Supply
       Firewire 800, USB 3

       My Mixing Board Is AI That communicates over Firewire 800 
       It Has A Virtual Board and an App to Control It On SmartPhone or Tablet 
       And Others In The Band Can Control their Own Mix 
 My MIDI Keyboard Has Lots of Different Instrument Sounds and Is Able To Access More Content Through Software.  Just Amazing Stuff,  Composing Software That will Make Sheet music From Midi Input,  Yea I Come A Long Way From Sitting By The Campfire Playing Guitar,  I Learn More Everyday But At My Age I Forget Stuff Too Dam Quickly,  I Stay At It and Will Take What I Am Given.
