Mike teams up with Ezel and switches hats to vocalist, painting us a picture that reflects on a man’s internal quest to find the right one. 

On the production side, Ezel conjures an eclectic blend of afro elements with dashes of Tech Soul aesthetics that play into the melodramatic. The Bayacou Dub, an uplifting atmospheric affair, takes things into deeper realms.

An offering of dance can move mountains. This statement speaks to the spiritual depth of Ezel’s new EP “Anba Dlo”. 

Anba Dlo or “Beneath the Waters” in Kreyol is a term utilized in the tradition of Vodou referring to the ancestral home of the spirits from which they come and go. The name is fitting for this body of work in which Ezel gives a glimpse into his connection with these energies.   

Things start off with “Nibo”, a mesmerizing, carnival inspired rhythm that serves as an offering and homage to the Loa, Guede Nibo, leader of the spirits of the dead. Traditional drums intertwine with syncopated synth stabs and dark pads to create a shadowy atmosphere that culminates in a multi-layered soundscape, as a prayer is being chanted “Vini danse woy, vini danse banda Guede Nibo”.

Next is “The Moon” where a steady, melodic arpeggiator line issues a call to all moon worshipers to gather and dance in its divine light. After that is “Caravan”, with its mechanical afro aesthetics, it portrays a sonic picture of the caravan of life that moves us all. Lastly “Lead by Water” envelops us in its serene, mellow atmosphere. Reverb drenched synths meet with sultry Rhodes lines, as we sail through the waters in the Immamou, the sacred boat in which offerings are delivered to the Spirit of the sea, Lord Agwe. 

  We pray this work fosters the spiritual connection of the listener and dancer with their own essence, and just like the essence of water, it brings life to the physical dancefloor, and the spiritual dancefloor within.

Next on the label is a musical collaboration that is special on many levels, as two artists from both sides of the island of Ayiti Kiskeya unite to collaborate on “Let Go”.

Oozing magical Caribbean reggae vibes, “Let Go” is the perfect example of music that uplifts. A perfectly timed conscious message adorned with rich and powerful instrumentation.

Back in 2016, Ezel was invited to travel to Port-Au-Prince to participate in “Azuei”, a collective of artists from Dominican Republic and Haiti that fosters peace, solidarity and integration of the sister nations thru the arts. It was there that he first met the amazing singer-composer Rebel Layonn (pronounced “Lion”), a super charismatic performer and advocate of social change in Haiti and the world.

As the saying goes, “like minds attract”. It was only a matter of time for these two talented artists to pursue the first of what we believe will be many collaborations.

BYC05 : Ezel ft. Ovasoul7 - U Made Me (Snippet )

Made in honor of the lwa Papa Ogou Sen Jak also known as Ogou Balendjo, a central figure in Haitian and Dominican Vodou tradition, this collection of tracks further expresses Ezel's vision of utilizing his art as a creative vessel to carry the dancer's mind and soul towards the realm of Spirit. 

Things start off with 'Sen Jak' featuring the vocals of influential Haitian singer James Germain. Known for giving voice to some of the most beautiful modern day renditions of classic Vodou songs, he was a perfect fit for this project. Him and Ezel managed to create this dance floor gem that depart from Ezel's signature afro tech sound into a new realm in which troubadour sounds and instruments like the accordion and the saxophone helped convey a folksy vibe that reminisces the Caribbean islands. 

Next is 'Awoshenago', a carnivalesque instrumental jam where a main central melody line is brought forward by several instruments creating a rising tide of sonic goodness. After that is 'Papa Loko' a popular song within Vodou, here re-imagined in a very soulful rendition with help from Haitian singer Christina Laguerre. 

Finally there is 'Ogou Priye', an acoustic song that came to be as the opening prayer/improvisation by James and Ezel as they prepared to start working on 'Sen Jak', praying to Papa Ogou to oversee and become present in the studio session. Although not oriented to a dance floor setting, Ezel wanted to include it as he feels it represents the essence of what was sought with the creation of this EP: a sense of connection and understanding of the higher truth that permeates our art, departing from us to the discerned listener/dancer worldwide.

The original mix has it all, a fresh MAW like vibe on the drums, a funky bass that's in control of the groove and the slick vocals of Mike City, who never fails to deliver. We believe this is a future classic.

On the b side, things get deeper with the Bayacou Deep Dub. Vocals are stripped down while Ezel completely transform the intention of the song taking it into the darker more hypnotic realms.
