This was the turning point in the whole recording process. I'd set out to record another 5 track EP, and had set about writing the track listing, but this track didn't fit. It became the catalyst for me finally deciding to record an actual full length album, hence the title Bitten Bullet.

Beginnings

19th November was the date I finished this track. 

I had the idea of this EP being 3 tracks and knew from as soon as I started working on it that this would be the 1st track. My favourite thing about it is the drums, as when they kick in, it gives the track an almost 90s trip hop vibe.

"sorta" was a track that I put to the side to work on later as it wasn't clicking at the time. I worked on Bazzjazz, went back to "sorta" and it made more sense to me. 

Sometimes taking a break to clear your mind or focus on something else for a bit can do you the world of good. This is an example of that.

My wife is the first person who listens to my tracks before I release them. When she listens, I go out the room, despite the fact that she has her headphones on. I heard her laugh. She later told me that, when the choir came in, "I didn't expect that". By the end of the track, she had tears in her eyes. 

Out of my discography (thus far!), Can't Deal is one of the tracks that I'm the most proud of creating. It's a bit melodramatic. There's a little bit of "kitchen sink" about the arrangement. But it's near enough exactly how I heard it in my head, which is quite the rarity tbf.

I've always loved the quote "courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says I'll try again tomorrow". This is my musical interpretation of that quote. There are days when just existing is enough. Just turning up is enough. That's the start. That's where you can begin.

The flute-like synth at the end of the song is a reminder of this. Though sounding shaky, it says "I'm still here and I won't give up".

Today Was Enough

I don't do direct sequels to other tracks I've made, but this feels very close to Recollection from Beginnings, hence the nod to it in title. 

The kind of way I like to end my albums - in a reflective mood and drifting away, until the next time my music meets the listener's ears.

Ey Cheeky! is another of those left-field kind of tracks that I created for this album. So far removed form anything else in my discography thus far.  

A cute, simple acoustic track. More to come, hopefully, in the future.

The 80s were a bloody great decade for music and one of my biggest inspirations. This has a few nods to it with some of the synth sounds I used. 

A full-on synthwave album is something I'd love to do in the future, so we'll see.

How About Now

The biggest track on the album.  Not so much in track length, but definitely in how stacked the track is. I tend to stay within the boundary of 8-16 tracks and Wash definitely pushed that. There's a mixture of 80s, shoegaze and ambient elements. 

This track took me longer to mix than any other on the album, and yet I still dont feel like I reached the lofty expectations I had in my mind.

Wash

Another of my favourite 3 tracks on the album. Tbf, I haven't ever really written many toe tappers, but this is one of those. My wife told me she loves how groovy it is. I purposely used the strings and horns to give it a 70s disco feel.

For A Good Time

The only track I created in the INTTW sessions without any acoustic drums. 

I wanted to go for a lofi kind of atmosphere on Gentle. Since it never felt like it was going to fit on INTTW, it felt like a fitting closing track for this EP. Probably one of the most relaxing tracks I've ever created.

When I played this to my wife, it was probably a bad time to do so as she already had a headache and she told me that while she enjoyed the track, it actually made her headache worse. I took it as a compliment, hence me calling the track "Headache" as a homage.

I'm actually really gutted I couldn't find a place for it on INTTW as it features my absolute favourite drum beat I've ever made. Listen out for it at 0:15 in.

Headache

Possible was an odd one for me. 

I make my best music in the evening. However, the idea for Possible came at around 9:00 on a Monday morning. This one of another 1st for me as (if you've heard any of my music) you'll know I usually end my tracks with one of 2 instruments, but this track ends quite suddenly.

"Foot tapper" was the working title before I settled on Less Stress because of the almost reggae beat of the drums and bass. 

This was actually going to be track 2 on INTTW before I recorded Finally, which did make it to the album.

Jangly was on INTTW until, pretty much, the 11th hour when I replaced it with Strictly Speaking. 

One of the 1st tracks I'd created for INTTW, and with the acoustic guitar being the main instruments made it another of those tracks that sounds absolutely nothing like anything I've created before.
