Herman Dune - Undiscarded Jacaranda

A first single to a forthcoming album of the same name, which will be out in fall 2023. 

In 2020 Ella Ronen began researching producers. The first two songs that moved her to check their credits, made by different artists in different years, led to one person: Sam Cohen. Her research was done. Several months later, Cohen received an email from her. The subject line was "producing an album", and it contained a first song for that future album. Cohen tells that although Ronen forgot to attach the recording file, the lyrics were enough for him to know - he wanted to make this album.

That song was 'The Girl with no Skin'.


Have you heard the story of the girl with no skin? 
She was born right here in town. A bloody mess of thoughts and feelings / The midwife dropped her almost-body down

The doctor said she has to stay for observation (And secretly hoped he’ll get to name the strange affliction)

And she thought: “I have no skin, who can tell / Where I end / And where I begin

They covered her in seaweed to protect her from the world / Kept her as hidden as a mouse. Children walked just a little faster when they passed by her house

They tried to sew on cow and human and pig skins / But none of them fit.

One day she scratched her cover off and walked into the square / Naked in the sun / Everyone stared / They half-expected her to melt / But she just laughed and said:

about Truth:
Following «The Girl With No Skin», Swiss-Israeli singer-songwriter Ella Ronen releases her second single, «Truth». The story behind the track: To a 16 year old in an Israeli suburb, Tel Aviv was the entire world. In a bar that was famous for allowing underage drinking, a well known poet and journalist began chatting Ella up. He then invited her to his place and attacked her. She narrowly escaped. Years later, a grown woman, artist and activist, Ronen took part in publishing a large exposé that outed him as a predator. «Truth» was written in the tense days awaiting publication.

Recorded in New York, with Sam Cohen as producer, conga beat played by Elizabeth Pupo Walker.

You mentioned you used to play the clarinet in high school in the early years of the millennium when you were young
And you said you’re hired, the pay is negligible, and the tour starts next month
You asked what I was working on, I said I’m writing an album of love songs
I laughed and said love songs are dumb, and I said oh yeah, wait til you hear these ones

At some point we got cornered by an amateur poet neither of us knew
Either he had no one else to talk to or just couldn’t pick up simple social cues

We told the poet that we always go together ‘cause that’s what happens when you’ve been dating forever

We stayed in there for ages hoping the amateur poet would go, it was awkward
We came out and found he’d discovered someone else to bother,

"I wrote this song last year, during the election, as I watched my mother's fight become my own. It’s a response to the calls from various politicians to strip women’s healthcare rights away in many states.

While writing, I tried to evoke the voices of my ancestors to help me say: we will not be punished or denied healthcare, and we will not be silenced.

In the lyrics, “Mother Crow” represents watchfulness. They have been known to alert prey to hunters, warning dear and other birds of coming danger. In fairytales and myths, crows are the keepers of the narrative and speak to us directly. 

The song summons energy to break the cycle of control, calls on our ancestors and wise animal guides, to crow-out for all spirited, liberated women: “Our own body, our own choice.”

The Burning Hell is the alter-ego of songwriter and ukulele-slinger Mathias Kom. Loosely based in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada, The Burning Hell has toured back and forth across Canada and Europe since 2007, playing everywhere from festivals to bars to living rooms - and once even a mental asylum in rural France. The band has garnered acclaim for their hyperactive live shows and their caustic yet sincere lyrics, believing as they do that songs about the inevitability of death can also be fun to dance to.

In 2012, The Burning Hell both made AND broke a record: the band recorded their newest album 'People' (to be released in spring 2013 via BB*Island) in Berlin at studio villlaqrella with producers Norman Nitzsche and Ramin Bijan; later in the summer, The Burning Hell set a new world record, playing ten shows in ten countries in less than 24 hours. But the band isn't tired yet, and 2013 promises to be action-packed.
